Crisis of Consience market price (we are in a bull market)
by NewYork44M ini was considering getting another copy of one of ray's books and was shocked about the market value.
is ray's book worth $1,000?
perhaps, but it is a bit shocking.

I am absolutely shocked! I bought mine about nine or so years ago and the price was reasonable. Just yesterday I offered to loan it to someone and she had another source to borrow it from. I don't think I will offer to lend it so easily in the future now knowing what is being charged for it. I also have In Search of Christian Freedom. Thank goodness there is a PDF version of Crisis of Conscience. Is there also one for In Search of Christian Freedom? Does anyone know? Seriously, whoever has the rights to these books now - wonder who that is? - should have them reprinted. I am sure the Watchtower Society would be tickled shitless to see them cost so much so that lots of people cannot buy them. -

My sister knows I said she was brainwashed

WingCommander and happy@last, I think you are right - no apology. I suspect she and I will not be talking again, but we talk so little now anyway that it will not matter. If I needed a hearing ear or companionship, she already was someone I would not go to. We really have so little in common. -

The JW religion has just cost me my marriage & my family life
by jambon1 inafter leaving the organisation 10 years ago i fought with everything i had to stay in my marriage and with my three children.
after a tumultuous number of years trying to maintain a happy family life while living in a divided home, it's finally over.
the religion is single handedly responsible for destroying my marriage and my family.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully, you can be a good influence to help your children out of this sick religion. As painful as things are right now, you can build a good life going forward. How sad that your wife chooses the organization over not only you, but your children as well. The organization will always come first, whatever life may bring for your children. How old are your children?

40 years on - and still in Damage Control mode!
by Bungi Bill inearlier this morning, i posted off to the the institute of engineers an application for membership as an "engineering associate":.
- today being just over 40 years since the congregation's retards elders made me abandon my apprenticeship.. (in this part of the world, the pre-1975 hype was taken to that level.
not being content to prevent young persons attending university, they went one step further and treated with hostility any youngster who would "tie up five years of their lives" by entering into an apprenticeship.

Best of luck to you! So many of us have regrets about following what the Watchtower Society wanted.
So many wasted opportunities! We have to concentrate on the positives and what we have accomplished otherwise and continue to accomplish what we can. -

Around Memorial time this year, I stated to my nephew on Facebook that my sister was brainwashed. Stupid me putting that on a public forum! He was offended because she continues to invite him to the Memorial even though he has PTSD from his JW experiences growing up. She pooh-poohs this as the cause of his PTSD, thereby negating his feelings.
Yesterday I found out that some helpful soul had repeated this comment to my sister. She is not on Facebook because she is married to an uber elder who does everything by the book, therefore she does, too, and I suppose it is still recommended they do not get on Facebook. So she is offended.
Brainwashing by Merriam-Webster dictionary - "Persuasion by propaganda or salesmanship." This is the secondary definition. The first one is "a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas". I apply the second definition of brainwashed to her because she, like me, is a born-in so she did not give up any other beliefs or attitudes to accept the WT indoctrination.
She and I talk very little - maybe 3 or 4 times a year and do not spend any time together. Her life is filled with all things WT and mine is filled with my family - husband, kids and grandkids - and living life. Our younger sister is the one she told about me saying this and I know our younger sister would like me to apologize or reach out in some way, but I am not inclined to do so. I think it is unfortunate that this was repeated to her and I regret that I was so foolish as to put this opinion up in a social forum, but there it is, done and over. I am sorry she is offended, but not for what I said.

I have just recently read two novels about Mormon families, The 19th Wife and The Bishop's Wife. They were fiction, but The 19th Wife also included a lot of historical information regarding polygamy and how the Mormon church came to finally officially rejecting that doctrine. Both gave a lot of insight into how their religion affects, in fact consumes, their personal lives and some of the incredible beliefs they have which are swallowed hook, line and sinker by the membership. I could see a lot of similarities between them and Jehovah's witnesses. Definitely they are both mind control cults.

They might be driving me nuts
by stillin inthe "boasting session" last night included forcing the congregation to watch that stupid witnessing cart video.
then the brother handling the part discusses what a "powerful witness" is being given each time those carts roll out into public view.. experiences: had a nice conversation with a young man.
a woman took a tract.

Powerful witness is nothing more than a sound bite. These people are so deluded. -

I've just been disfellowshipped!
by maksutov inapparently it was announced last night.
i was not informed (for 'legal reasons'), but they phoned my dad and told him.
i understand it is due to my apostate book.

Amazing how they think they have the right to do this after you have been away for five years. And did not inform you for legal reasons, whatever they may have been. I hope your family does not shun you, particularly if you have been close with them. But being out is the best thing you could have ever done for your family. Best wishes to you.
