JW's and Girlscout cookies
by oppgirl63 inmy jw roommate and i were watching boston legal the other night and one case was about someone being fired for their religious beliefs.
when one of the lawyers was talking to the jury, he mentioned many religions and the odd, quirky things about them.
he did mention that if you were a jehovah's witness you couldn't buy girl scout cookies.

I teamed up because they looked neat and had plenty of neat looking magazines. I started reading the neat magazines and agreed with many wondeful issues like "The Beautiful Moth" and other wonderful Awake! articles. The Watchtower was like being back in school again, I got to raise my hand and answer questions. They even had a guy with a microphone to bring to me. It was usually the black people that got that part. The elders were wonderful white men with lots of money. I liked that too. But then, one day... I started doing something else. I started actually reading the bible. I found out that the bible actually teaches something totally different from what they were claiming. I was beginning to get a little upset. So I started asking some questions. Next thing you know, I was being looked at funny. "He's doubting Jehovah's authority" and such. Finally, I snapped. I just up and left. Without a trace. And I lived happily ever after...

Sorry Jourles but your old Witchtower skills are not prohesying correctly here at JWD. It appears as if the Mets are now up 4 zip. Care to revise your post? Luckily you can change the prophecy here and everyone is understanding since we can also blurt out the occasional "oh shit" and not worry about some creepy elder ready to stick a foghorn up our ass and give us some of his "disicipline"... Don't ever play ball with the tough elders... Sure, they'll play ball for a while, but when your back is turned, they shove the bat right up your ass. I THINK THE METS WILL WIN BOTH THESE GAMES, and then at least 2 in the series.... I am also sure that "the end is coming"... at least that is what my girlfriend likes to think...Either way... GO TIGERS!!!!

i devoured the exciting words of death and destruction.
i especially liked the second picture of the nasty harlot getting eaten.

Are you really free from the Watchtower?
by yaddayadda inthe thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.
i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.
the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

I broke free from the WT about 10 years ago. However, that was about the same time the internet got fast and colorful. Since then I have been stuck online, and went from 6 foot 2 and 180 LBS to 250. Although I do about 20 pushups a day so I don't end up looking like Cartman.

Starting a new Anthrax hoax of course comes to mind. What a way to get them into the national spotlight too. Send a that tract in a blank white envelope without your prints on it, to some national idiot at the pentagon or white house with some powdered milk inside. Just write on the return addess "I like the band Anthrax" and see the magic start... You will see a picture of Bethel on TV on all channels in a matter of hours. The Brooklyn building will be in the spotlight and every little sick detail of the organzation will come out in the national media. This is the ticket. Of course I am only joking.

Can someone explain why JW's use, "BCE, CE, etc" ???
by WingCommander ini always thought this weird, even as a child.
i think i remember asking, but never really getting an answer.
what does the "e" stand for when they use dates like "607 bce", etc?

Also it has to do with the birth of Christ, not the death. Daystar you mentioned AD 0 being a few years "after" his death or something. As underbeliever correctly asserted, it is in reference to the latin descriptions (before the birth and after the birth, or more correctly "year of our lord")... Shalom
