I decided a long time ago I'd rather be dead than live forever with the JWs I knew. I just hope they are right about Hell being the grave. I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't like being HOT. (So how did I end up in the desert?)

by *jeremiah* inok, here's a hypothetical that i'm curious about.. what if armageddon really did happen?
not necessarily according to jw terms or timetable, but at some point it happens in your lifetime.
would any of you return to the jws?.

Started Fading 25 - 30 years ago. (Baptised when I was 12 so I don't count it as it was not legal in my opinion.) Did visit KH off and on there for a while. Haven't been back in at least 20 years. I did attend one day of a circuit assembly a few years back and saw many old friends. It was sad seeing them still there. I just had a thought - maybe they were just visiting and were sad I was still "in". : )

1874 a date the Lord chose?
by lovelylil inthis interesting statement was made on a bible student forum and sent to me by one of my friends.
i have copied it the same way he sent it to me.
here a bs is explaining how the lord himself chose the date 1874 as his "invisible return".

Thank you all for this discussion. My father told me not long ago that the WTS had the chronology worked out and it was all correct. Of course at the time I did not know about JWD. James, it confused me when you said "It might be of interest to know that William Miller himself (a former Baptist preacher) publicly apologized for the failure of the 1844 date but kept right on looking for the coming of the Lord until his death in 1859. ........... Did you know that Miller himself thought it was going to be 1873 until that passed, and then set it for Oct. 22, 1874?" If Miller died in 1859 did you mean Barbour or someone else in that last sentence? Thanks

How Many Clocks Did You Reset

Stephanus - Guess you could celebrate New Years twice (if you were sober enough). It's a 2 hour drive to California from here so you'd be late for the second party. When in Georgia I was less than an hour from the Alabama state line (& Central Time) so it would have been easier there.

Personality of "Anointed" JWs
by Smiles indid you notice any similarities in the personalities of "anointed" jws?.
did they use their anointed status for personal advantage?.
were they the most loving person you ever met?.

Just wanted to say Hi & welcome to Dr Zhivago. I am a newbie also. I can't remember ever personally knowing one of the anointed but we sure stretched our necks at the Memorial trying to see if anyone did partake.

NO I would never go back. My children are not JWs. They went to meetings when they were small but I found out in time and told them to not get baptised until they were as old as Jesus was. Probably the best thing I ever taught them. For some reason the rest of my family does not shun me now. Not sure why. I was only 12 when baptised so I dont believe I am responsible for that since I was only a child. There was a time about 20 years ago that a man moved in with me. I was already really out so I didn't see the big deal. My elder father did try to get me in trouble with the rest. He said the elders wanted to talk to me. I told him it was none of their business what I did. Nothing ever happened with the JWs but several in the family decided I needed punishing so they shunned me for a year or so til the guy moved out. Then they started talking to me again. That just made me mad cause I was the same person; felt the same way about everything. To this day I still feel uncomfortable around them when they try to love bomb me after they way the treated me.

stillajwexelder - you got the connection. MeneMene Tekel Peres is the Writing on the Wall - where do I know Tekel Parsin from? Harry Potter? Anyway you guys are just great. I heard about Freeminds.org and had been reading a lot there and just found this site a few weeks ago. I disassociated myself many years ago (30 or so) but still have family in. I am shocked (and glad) to see all the JWs and Elders on here. I just hope they can creat some independent thinking from within. Wish I had thought of that before I left. What fun I could have had.

The big assemblies every summer WERE our vacations!!! How sad is that? Remember when the assemblies lasted about a week? When I was small we went to New York City in 1958, to Dallas TX, the race track in Miami FL, etc. We always managed to do some sight seeing and went to the beach if the city was near one. (Been lurking - hope this works)
