  My self-worth does not actually depend on another poster's opinion of me.

  i've been trashed and bullied by one poster for posting info off the internet that i was offering to someone in need of hope.

  i began a thread on the subject of whether it is right or wrong to offer hope to someone in desperate circumstances in order that the poster could see that theirs wasn't the only opinion of any value.

  while most who responded were in agreement with the validity of being encouraging and offering hopeful info that can be looked into or not, it's the viewer's choice, that poster has continued his bullying, stating that i'm mentally, literally incompetent, basically stupid and irresponsible, though i'm so incompetent that i shouldn't be actually held accountable for my well-meant ignorance.

  I'm Attending the Memorial

  my lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.

  when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.

  but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

  Richie you are a brave man - a good point from listener - most of the youngsters there would love to feel that one day they could be free to do whatever and have as many piercings as they want.

  geeze, the memorial to remember your place in the organization jesus christ is next tueday i think.......anyone else getting roped into going besides me?

  i'm trying to talk my brother into going....just so i'm not the only slacker there.

  perhaps you have been reading this board for awhile, and you may believe some of the things we have been saying, however you are still gripped in fear of armageddon.. .

  the wt society has been predicting armageddon for well over 100 years, and when the prophecies fail, they blame you and say "we never said that".

  Yes that makes sense. I remember when I first started looking at sites such as this one, every 5 minutes or so I go to the window to see if any members of my family were back - whew. The guilt, the paranoia.

  without doubt...... evidently...... obviously....... we can conclude from this......... can you think of more?.

  a lot has to be learnt from blondie's watchtower studies and some of it is that when the wt society has no evidence for a supposition it plants one of these phrases that suggest stupidity on the part of the reader if he/she doesn't agree with what idea the watchtower society has come up with!.

  whenever me and my mom would have our weekly study, it seemed like we would have the best conversations.

  that's when i felt closest to her and felt like both our minds and hearts were open and loving and receptive.

  now....(she's still a jw-i'm not), whenever we talk, since it's never about spiritual stuff anymore (since i don't believe it), it's always about shallow stuff-i feel so shallow.

  that's a lovely comment.

  I found myself in a similar situation with my husband and son, when I first left, very superficial and disconnected from them.

  My way round it is to silently engage with my heart when I am with them - doesn't matter what we are talking about - It helps me to take in all the things that I love about them and achieve a similar sense of connection that I had when I was a witness. Have come to see that the words or beliefs have changed but they are not important anymore, but being with them is.
