How many remember the 1969 8 day convention?
by seek2find inanybody remember the 8 day 1969 international convention.
i was at the braves stadium in atlanta all 8 days with a sunburn and then wet clothes after the rain storms.
if you were there (not necessarily in atlanta) do you remember anything about it?

My Story (in detail)
by KW13 inits sometimes hard for us ex-dubs to share our stories and even harder for those who can't leave the organization and need to vent.
i would encourage all those with a story to tell to do so, i'd really enjoy reading it as i do already read the stories you all shared.. i grew up without my dad and almost without my mum since she was always out drinking or doing something else.
we've been homeless and without money, for years no one in the family had a telephone and my dad offered the sum total of 1.50 a week in child support before running away to american for a few years, abandoning his responsibilities (which he successfully evaded right up to me being too old to need or want his help).

Sincere Question to Anyone who Believes in God
by Big Tex inlately it's occurred to me that one day i will die.
being raised in a cult that teaches you, you will live forever without dying will warp perspectives.
and i've been working hard on coming to terms with that realization, and it's becoming more and more okay.

jst2laws gave me a reading assignment last night, so come paycheck next week I'm off to the bookstore! I've been in the mood for something new reading wise anyway.
bigtex, I'm curious - which book on buddhism did jst2laws reccommend. I've browsed through books on buddhism in bookstores - but it seems such a big subject I've ended up not buying anythin.

Concerned.
by SPAZnik intoday someone i love like a son is meeting with the elders.
he seems to need closure.
he thinks there's a possibility they may charge him with apostasy for his questioning attitude.

Satanus recommended silence as well. Thanks for reinforcing the idea. The nice thing is I go in with no expectations so there will be no disappointment, you know?
going in with no expectations - thats the beauty of it imo. As humans we want to quantify and measure. Its more liberating to stay in a non-expectational state

when I was a witness I'd imagine I'd died already and was starting a new day - that used to trick my brain into new ways of seeing things. But I'd soon fall back into the old disabling pattern.
Nowadays I find that listening out for silence helps me - it really does - at the very least it stops me thinking.

My Mom died yesterday
by skeptic1914 inmy mom passed away yesterday.
she was a die-hard jw.
i tried to explain why i couldn't accept certain teachings but rather than rationally consider what i had to say she chose to believe i was just "confused".

AFTER WILLIAM MILLER......the saga continues.....
by Terry inthis continues as pt.2 of: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/132920/2365238/post.ashx#2365238.
william miller began his preaching reluctantly.
he had no formal training and he was self-educated.

am enjoying the saga Terry
I wonder what Miller would have acheived in a different setting - political or scientific. Mind you he would have been under more contraints and his thinking and behaviour would have been more regulated and moderated by his peers. just thinking.
