I have a question for the researchers here. I tried to do a search, but the word "worship" brings up way too many posts to filter through.

I remember as a young JW being told that JWs render "secondary worship" to Jesus Christ. The explanation of the difference between obeisance and worship entered into that conversation.

I have done a search on the WT CD but don't come up with that particular phrase. This makes me wonder if perhaps it was a description my father used himself rather than something directly stated in the literature.

Anyway, if any of you researchers know of a WT source that refers to the worship due to Jesus as "secondary worship" or a similar statement, I would appreciate citations (which I should then be able to track down in my electronic library).

I know the Society has said that Catholics call their use of images "relative worship", and I found that term, but not the term "secondary worship".

it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

* i have travelled into all 48 american states that are not named alaska or hawaii.. * for the past few years, i have had a slight walking impairment due to a form of arthritis known as ankylosing spondylitis.

the obvious question that arises from this remark is -- who ever believed that david ascended to heaven?

How could an ex-Jw become Catholic

i don't mean this to be offensive to any catholics in any way and believe that they can have true salvation unlike the jw.

also, i know little about the in's and out's of practicing catholicism, as i have never had any interest in being one.

regardless i am always surprised when an ex-jw says that they have found the real truth in catholicism.

In our modern times, it is easy to forget that for the first 1500 years (at least) of Christianity, individual Christians did not have regular access to copies of the Holy Scriptures. Many could not read either.

That is why the Liturgy of the Word -- in which scripture is proclaimed in the Mass -- was so vitally important. It is also why the great cathedrals have stained glass windows -- they were Bibles in glass that could be "read" by everyone.

As to the parting of ways between the Eastern and Western Church, both Pope Benedict XVI (as well as John Paul II before him) and the Patriarch of Constantinople (and other Eastern Church leaders) are in prayerful dialogue regarding Christian Unity. I have two friends who are Russian Orthodox. The Orthodox faith is beautiful and apostolic.
