Hey StAnn:
The RSV-CE is back in print (I just bought one):
http://www.amazon.com/Ignatius-Catholic-Bible-Standard-Burgundy/dp/1586171011/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2
It is the 1966 Edition, the same edition that appears on Bibiliaclerus.
Pax,
Ruth
i know, it seems like half of everyone that leaves turns athiest.... but for those of us out there, who figure on still being christian, have you found a translation of the bible that you belive lives "up to par"?
i'm really trying to research, but there's so many, i wondered if you had any input!.
thanks!.

I like the Revised Standard Version.
I use the Catholic Edition (since I'm Catholic). But there are several others available.
When I read the Psalms, I love to use the King James Version. The language is so beautiful.
You can go to http://www.biblegateway.com and look at verses in several different translations at once.
The site http://www.e-sword.net/ offers free Bible study software. They have the King James Version linked with Strong's Bible Dictionary in electronic form at no cost -- other commentaries too!!
If you go to this site, http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerusonline/en/index.htm and click on the part of the Bible you want to look at on the left, you will get scripture on the right with links to commentary from the Early Church Fathers on the left side. Great stuff ;-).
This site: http://www.ccel.org/ gives you access to all the Early Church Fathers and other resources. If you join (it's free!) you can download whole books as *.pdf files.
And you haven't spent a penny yet...
When I realized how much genuine scholarship is available online absolutely free, I was shocked that the Watchtower Society continues to insist on having its literature distributed only in print (hahaha) and only by its selected agents (more hahaha). Just more proof that they really ARE all about the money coming in...
Have at it!
Pax,
Ruth
he thought long and hard before he said he didn't think so, but he did think they were a high control group.
now those of you who know alan are aware that he knows more about the wt religion than everyone in bethel (including the gb) put together.
that was ten years ago, but look what has happened since.. about 8 years ago alanf was making a business trip to new york city and he asked me if i wanted a copy of the wt cd rom.
Excellent article, Farkel.
We had all those old books at my house. We looked at them and laughed, just as you said. My father, who was congregation servant and then elder, laughed the hardest.
My dad died in 1991. I don't think he would have liked the direction the WTS has taken since then.
Pax,
Ruth
I've seen it as well but can't provide a scan (at least not yet).
It does not have a new copyright date (copyrights are 1961, 1981, 1984), but it is identified as the "2006 Printing". Perhaps they thought no one would notice?
Pax,
Ruth

Tom says it better than I can ;-)
Pax,
Ruth
if you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.
Bookmarking for future reference ;-).

watched tom tonight, and thought he made some excellent points.
i called, and actually got through, but the producer didn't put me on.
i wanted to ask tom if his leaving bethel in 1980 had any connection with the whole ray franz/ed dunlap incident, which was happening then.. as tom knows, i'm one of those ex-jws who became an atheist, so i took quite a different path than he did in leaving the jws, and i certainly don't agree with his conclusions.
Does EWTN plan to re-air this anytime soon? I missed it, but would like to see it.
Jason:
I don't know about any planned rerun of the show (although a followup "round table" discussion sometimes occurs -- hopefully Tom will let us know if one gets scheduled).
There are no permanent video archives of the show, but you can listen to the archived audio here:
http://www.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/resolve.asp?audiofile=jh_05192008.rm
EWTN also sells DVDs of past episodes.
Pax,
Ruth
ps: Another excellent two part interview (with Randy Watters interviewing Tom Cabeen) can be found here:
