  JW Vultures!

  my 45 year old son committed suicide in may, he was living in texas, i live in mississippi, he was raised here and had many family members and friends here so on june 4, i had his obituary run in our local paper...on june 6, i got a letter in the mail from a town 12 miles away, thinking it was from someone who knew him i opened it to find that it was from a jw who i do not know and it contained a typed note along with that damn when someone you love dies tract in it!

  i was furious at the person who sent it until i thought about how brainwashed they are and how important it is for them to get their time in even if it's done in such a disgusting manner as reading the obituaries and imposing their screwed up beliefs on people like myself who are in pain and grieving the loss of their first born son!

  i tore it to bits and put it in the trash where it belongs.

  I've been that brainwashed myself.
  
  When I was about 16-17 years old, the father of a girl in my class died suddenly.
  I went to the funeral, and with me I of course brought the "dead-brochure" (the one with the beach/sunset on the front).
  
  First of all, I was not at all known to the church traditions on funerals, so I did not know it was a tradition for everyone to handshake the closest family of the deceased, and that the second closest would be the first in line, and that the rest of us would join in little by little.
  
  So when the first ones where giving their condolances, I saw my opportunity so sneak in behind my classmate and hand her a small plastic bag containing the brochure, and then sneak back.
  
  I was of course in my best intentions, as I have grown up to think that this brochure really would be of comfort and help. But all the years afterwards I've felt sick about how disrespectful I behaved.
  
  A few weeks ago I came across this girl again, and I finally got to say how sorry I was for what I did.
  
  She said she just tossed the brochure, and did not really think about it because they new I was beeing brainwashed, and that I should not think about it.
  
  I was soooo reliefed!
  
  So I can relate both to you, and to the one who send you this "comforting" tract.

  I've mostly seen the "American tourist", though...
  
  When we went on Interrail (in Europe) a few years back, we experienced that the only ones that would be rude enough to not first ask if we could speak English, where Americans. Everyone else would say "excuse me, do you speak English", and then go on with what was on their mind, but Americans would just assume that everyone around them new the language (and loved to converse in it).
  
  On the other hand, in Venice, we met a french couple that asked us if we spoke English -- in French...
  ("Parlez-vouz l'anglais?" "Eh... yes.")

  "weren't you scared to do something like that, knock on a stranger's door?

  actually it's been so long that i had almost forgotten.

  I and a sister came to one house on a "vacant district" (I don't know the English term) one summer, and the owner threatened to sick his dog on us. We turned around of course, didn't run, but it was pretty close. And I think he let go of the dog (big and scary) just before we reached the gate.
  
  That was pretty nerve-wracking, you might say.

  After some reconsideration, I think only a few of them really are JWs.
  Why someone will say they are JWs when they're not, I really don't know...

  Why are congregations dissolved?

  only once in my life have i heard of a congregation being dissolved (closed down) for reasons of sin.. .

  has anyone here heard of congs being closed down?

  Yes, I've heard of a cong. that was dissolved.
  I think it was because too many of the BOE were DF'd at the same time during a CO's visit.
  The members where divided between some of the other congs in the city.
  
  I heard a rumour once. I don't know if these two incidents are connected, though.
  
  Some MS/elders decided to have som fun with the CO who was coming to the cong.
  So they arranged for a huge, full figure, natural sized, image of the CO to be printed, and put it on a wall inside the KH.
  
  The CO apparently did not see the fun part of it at all...

  HYMN USED IN CHURCHES SUPPOSEDLY OF WATCHOWER ORIGIN!

  the hymn` stand up ,stand up for jesus'.

  while looking through a searchable database of zwt 1877-1916,the link to which i found on a wikipedia article called` watchtower magazine'.. in one 1915/1916 article in zwt,it metions this hymn,it is infered that bible students invented this hymn.. is this so?.

  In the old songbook there was a song with exactly the same melody as a christmas carol. Before the LP and cassettes with the KMs came, there cong. were accompanied by live music by some of the members that knew how to play an instrument. E.g. piano and violin. One old man, the violin player, totally refused to play this song, because _he_ would definitely not play any christmas carol :-)
  
  In the newest songbook there is a song which beginning is exactly the same as that of a popular Norwegian childrens' song. At least the first ten (I think) notes of the first line, and the same on the second line are the same. Only the last four notes on each line are different.
  
  I remember more than one time, almost the whole cong. singing the first line of this song, and continue in the melody of the childrens' song :-D
  So funny, and almost the whole cong. laughed though the rest of the song, trying to concentrate on singing the right melody.
  
  I don't have my songbook here at the moment, so I can't tell which Kingdom Melody it is. But the childrens' song, "I bakvendtland" by Alf Prøysen, you can listen to here: http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=875b75eae368a68f6db9b99fc0a07a59
  
  In english the name of the song is "in the back-to-front country" or something. Katia Cardinal has done a spanish version: "En reverslandia"

  rude people at the door

  why you were part of the jw faith and you were by yourself at a persons door ,who was really rude toward you, did you ever say anything nasty back instead of saying have a nice day?

  also did you ever want to just knock someone out?

  any experiences or thoughts of what you wanted to do?
