Oh GGBG, you hit the nail on the head for sure! Showing off in JW Land is alive and well indeed. Conventions were the prime breeding grounds for that sort of thing. I got rid of all my "meeting clothes", now I wear REAL clothes. I do enjoy dressing up, so I've revamped my entire work wardrobe. It's so nice being able to wear more body-conscious things that would have been looked down upon in JW Land.

Shark meat is VERY popular in this neck of the woods. It's the "street food" on one of the most popular beaches here ... served seasoned and fried, then placed in a piece of fried dough (called "bake" even though it's fried) and drenched in your choice of sauces and condiments..

Oh yeah! And don't forget to avoid the EVIL INTERNET, and a university education means you'll be D.E.A.D. at Armageddon.

Why don't Witnesses indentify themselves at the door when in service?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy 17 year old daughter told me 2 men were at the door saturday looking for adults that lived in the house.my wife and i were out of town for 2 days.they had suits on and carrying book bags.
they asked if she was over 18. she replied that she wasn't.
they left without indentifiying themselves.

Why they choose to remain unidentified? Simply put, that's to prevent the door being slammed in their faces!

Counting Time?
by sweet pea inreading through the posts it seems to be that many of you put in field service reports that are/were inaccurate for one reason or the other.
what were/are your reasons?
what ways did/do you count your time?

I hated going out for field service, so a couple months before I made my break for it I just decided to put in a couple "token" items on my field service slip to keep the elders off my back. The service "Overbeer" was constantly hounding me about being a low-hour publisher and lying on that stupid slip stopped him in his tracks. At first I would feel badly about it, but after a while it was okay. I think I probably lied on my FS slip for over a year!

Were You "Refreshed" After Going To Meetings & Assemblies?
by minimus inthey say that our spiritual food is sooo refreshing!
it's "just what we needed"!.
how did you feel after going out in the ministry or after a meeting?.

Tuesdays and Thursdays were the most depressing days of the week! As for Sundays, I would spend the entire day wishing we would end up not going to the meeting.

Were You Treated With Respect When Counseled By The Elders?
by Paralipomenon ini knew a certain few elders that really got off by "talking down" to the "flock".
many elders were pretty nice guys but a few could turn----just like that!
what was your experience with "those taking the lead", the "loving shepherds"???
-

Not really. I remember one time I was being counselled by an elder for a talk I had given. I disagreed with his counsel, and when he realized I wasn't about to back down, he said "sister ... that is MY view, and so be it." That was the LAST talk I ever gave in the theocratic ministry school.

I suppose "spiritual food" is similar to "physical food"... except when ...
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inon page 103 of the revised flock book (1991 edition) where it discusses disfellowshipped ones (and social gatherings), it states that "loyal worshippers of jehovah will want to adhere to the inspired counsel at 1 corinthians 5:11.
" the "counsel" given there involves "not even eating" with a disfellowshipped one.. if the rank and file aren't allowed to have a literal meal with the df'd person, how come they're allowed to have a "spiritual meal" with that same person?
why should the df'd person be subjected to the torture of going to the kingdumb hell just to be ignored by everyone?
