The egoist is fooled by no ideals: he discards them or uses them, as may suit his own interest. If he likes to be altruistic, he will sacrifice himself for others; but only because he likes to do so; he demands no gratitude nor glory in return.
Interesting article. I whole-heartedly agree with the summation.

The Memorial
by TheDoctor ini saw some mention of this in another post, but i wasn't sure if there was a topic about it.
being raised in the "truth" its always pointed out that even people who haven't been to meetings in years still come to the memorial.
ive noticed that a lot of time that is actually the case.

I'll go to the memorial if they do away with that silly ban on red lights and stripper poles...

CORMAC MCCARTHY may well be my favorite writer
by Terry in) never read fiction.. personal reasons.
i use to read a lot of fiction as a teenager, but, gave it up.
i had enough to do rearing 7 kids and having to indulge in life to make the trade-off of time required to keep up with fiction.. now, there has come an author who has stopped me dead in my tracks and changed all that and his name is cormac mccarthy.. he is some kind of genius with quirky style and a bottomless vocabulary and a penchant for storytelling that won't let me escape.. i first heard of mccarthy by reading the literary critic, harold bloom.

Loving crazy people
by coolhandluke ini don't think there is such a thing as "normal".
i think the best we can do is either functioning or non functioning.
we amble through life confused.

It's difficult to love people with emotional challenges. The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the increased need to enforce boundaries. That's one of the common denominators among those with emotional issues. I believe it's roots are in the enhanced self-centeredness that also seems all too common. The two together, make a situation where boundaries have to be re-defined on a daily basis. Not that the definition from the day before is no longer valid, but that the emotionally challenged person needs constant reminders that they even exist.

If you are willing to try a little more on the fantasy side, anything by Roger Zelazney (sp?) ESPECIALLY the Chronicles of Amber.
I second this. Plus, the final five books of this series (there are ten in all) have more of a science fiction feel to them than fantasy due to their deep roots in computers. The entire series has been my overall favorite for somewhere around twenty years.

The little liar that became a monstrous behemoth
by Tyrone van leyen inthe early days....... i don't claim to be a rutherford expert, but i was doing some thinking the other day about this man and the impact he has had on millions for decades.
what started out as something a little whacky, but more people freindly by c.t.
russell, was harmless enough.

Nice to see you back, Tyrone. I agree with your thesis too. He's the one who gave the JW their anti-social personality.
