about twelve months ago i came to the realisation that i am an alcoholic.. for the past year i have been having breaks from the drink of about a week at a time but as i cannot deal with stress well i always seem to turn to alcohol as an escape.. i have realised the last few weeks that i need help to stop drinking but do not want that stigma of attending aa meetings or getting counselling for my addiction.. yesterday i decided to phone the aa and so attended a meeting last night where i found to my surprise many people who were going through the same process as me but had decided not to carry on turning to drink.. i dont know if many in the us understand the culture of drinking and pubs in britain?
but it is an integral part of uk society, friday and saturday nights are all about going out and having a good time drinking as much as we can.
so for an alcoholic it can be a nightmare.. i just wanted to share this with and would like to continue to post in the future about it.. yours paul.

started me thinking about why this is and how so.
then i made this list and realized how much a child's psyche.

it still seems like a dillema to me as the watchtower seems to teach whats in the bible really well, although these days i can see a few scriptures which have been twisted and deep down i have never trusted the new world translation.. but on the other hand the statistics dont seem to add up at all.for example since i have been in my congregation despite the inportance placed on jws to be out on field circus only the odd few accept mags on the doors all others just couldnt be bothered.my local congregation has not really grown and brought in the so called right hearted ones.the odd few have come in but mainly growth seems to come from jws that have left their country and come to britain esp from zimbabwe thats seems popular.in fact ive saw a number leave.. plus my book study group in my neighbourhood for tuesday evenings has not grown at all despite the odd study here and there and a few people having the mags.im im left thinking come on out of all the people in my area only this small group here is expecting to be saved and they arent anything special not any better than anyone else.. id like to know what if any growth in congregations others have seen and how many people respond etc?.

i'm having a minor outpatient surgery in the morning in charlotte.
the hospital just called me and asked me how i felt about blood transfusions and if i had any religious beliefs that would hinder my medical care.
they still had listed from years and years ago, that i was a jw.

Half of me wants to return it unopened with a note saying - unless you can act like a normal human being and stop shunning us then we cannot accept these gifts.

he is happy to see them but knows the problems associated with their visit will be hard to deal with.
you see, these relatives don't understand how difficult it is to come out of the cult and move on.

Great topic Billzfan23. There was an elder in Witchita Falls who used to say, "Jehovah's Witnesses are so clean that we stand out like a WELL thumb." Comparing that to the "sore thumb" cliché. That's what I believed. I think a lot if not most of the witnessed believe the same. It warms you up to feel you are stepping up to the plate. Even more so when you believe that most people on the planet simply don't care. So, finding out that the good fruit is merely wax is definitely sobering.

i am both new to this forum and new to the jehovah's witness organization.
i am currently about half way through the 'what does the bible really teach?
" and have been attending both sunday services and ministerial school for 3 months.. my biggest problem is that, being a researcher by nature, "verifying that all things are true," i have also been researching the organization which has stumbled me greatly.
Now that I have vented, my question is Why?? Why do they keep information from their members? Why do they lie about it and try to cover it up?
Would you join if you knew up front they were hypocrites?
