scully, too true! He was full of enthusiasm as he was leaving! Kept apologizing for monopolizing the conversation. That didn't seem to stop it at the time though... His mouth was getting him in trouble, though, he started talking about how Jehovah is our grandfather, and Jesus has a wife, etc. I said:" Wait just a minute. SHOW me a verse that calls Jehovah grandpa, otherwise you are starting to sound like a Mormon. Soon you'll be telling me I can have my own planet somewhere... we all had a good laugh, but SERIOUSLY? GRANDPA J?"

Please rescue me! I just got hit with a JW Mac Truck!
by truthsearcher inoh my, i just had a visit from a jw who proceeded to, for an hour and half, try and cover every doctrine in the book, jump from scripture to scripture, half the time i was so confused about what was being said.
the other witness barely got a word in edgewise.
i quickly realized that there was going to be no discussion--it was sit and listen and try and look intelligent.

The JW's Concept of The Resurrection, a False Hope?
by VM44 inthe jw's concept of the resurrection is that at some time in the future a duplicate physical body of a person will be created and onto this duplicated body's brain, the person's memories will be impressed.
the jw's are very clear that the individual does not possess a "soul" that continues on after death, so there is nothing unique to transfer from the original person to the re-created body.
why should the idea that some impostor in the future who was given my memories and who also believes that they were once me give me any hope today?

Go, moggy, go! Well said, and when you think about it that way, it is kind of sickening, isn't it? It is a warped twisting of biblical teaching on so many different levels.

I haven't seen anyone mention my favourtie group yet:
The Osmond Brothers!!
Okay, now you know I'm old...I bought every single one of their albums, including a strange one about Mormonism...Although I got rid of them, I recently found one at a thrift shop and brought it home for fun. My kids laughed in surprize at the funky music and me singing my head off and actually remembering the lyrics. "sigh" Oh yeah, good memories of "concerts" with me, my friends and our record player. That was when I was going to a. become a rock star b. marry Donny c. become a Mormon if necessary to achieve b. Then I actually did some research into Mormonism, and quickly realized I did not want to be an eternally pregnant godess on a planet somewhere.

Some Christian Christmas Family Traditions
by truthsearcher ini don't know if there are any out there who may be wanting to celebrate christmas this year from a christian perspective.
i thought i would share a few ways that as a family, we have tried to make "family traditions" that take the focus off of materialism and on to the celebration of the birth of christ.
you may have heard of these before.... on christmas eve, we have shepherd's pie for supper and think of the shepherds who received the good news out in the fields.

Good morning Lisa: Carolling is lots of fun! But it is definitely much better in a large group (preferably with some good, loud voices!) Another option is carry a portable music player of some type, with a CD of people singing, and then just crank it up and join in. People are usually quite amused when you show up at their doorstep, but it is often better to go to people that you know, 'cuz then they might invite you in for some "figgy pudding". Of course, this might not be advisable for those who are fading or doubting! Seriously, there are often community and church groups that will go carolling at nursing homes and such, so if your grand daughter is that keen, you might find a way to provide this experience. We always sing together as a family after the BIG meal has digested a bit. It helps that I am a pianist but you could always just sing along to a CD.

When you tell "worldly" people about life as a dub...
by wanderlustguy indo they get angry?
gets furious to the point i haven't even told her 10% of my past as a dub.. do you find it strangely amusing tha they get angry, and laugh or chuckle for some reason?
i do, and i think it's because i find it so ridiculous now and to see someone get flustered over it kind of reaffirms my feelings.. does it make your relationship difficult?

PS. I know what you mean by "organized religion" but I don't consider myself to be a part of "religion" but to be a part of a relationship with Powers and people that don't look or sound or behave anything like the WT variety. Sorry, just had to add that.

Hi outoftheorg: I appreciate your kind comments. I am trying to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, by meeting regularly with JWs in my neighbourhood. You may have seen some of my posts about my merry adventures! Of course, they are trying to convert me, but we all the know the truth about that, don't we? I must say that it is work, and if I didn't spend alot of time preparing, I would be drowning by now! (Maybe in the JW baptismal tank?) So I come on the discussion board for some insider info and motivation, and I listen to MMoutreach audio clips to hear JWs who are happy and healed!

Well guys, I am I guess what you would call a "wordly" person, (although I am a Christian and I am definitely not what we would call "wordly"!) . I want to take this opportunity to say that I do care what you have gone through, and I know of others who would be very concerned and caring. It is because we see the darkness and the bondage and the hopelessness of the cult. I even find myself crying when I hear people's stories, because it is so WRONG! Many of you have turned away from having any faith at all because of these wolves, and many lives are still full of pain and suffering because of shunning and mind control issues. Perhaps it is because my mother's family were in a cult (not JW) and she was shunned until I was 8 because of marrying outside the cult. This tore her apart--and their marriage and her life almost did not survive. I remember crying in the bathroom at school because of what was happening at home. I'm sure this puts me in a different boat that the average person, but I know that there would be Christians like myself who would be very supportive of helping you however we could...

Jgnat: You are very perceptive. He did tell us in his ramblings about being a pioneer in several states, but I don't know if he is currently pioneering. I certainly don't want to be "handed off" to him, I much prefer the other JWs who have come a' calling. I will certainly be asking questions about this situation.
Jourles: Yes, I definitely needed the "wrap it up box". I'll have to look out for it in the stores.
Mouthy: You are such a sweetheart and I love the fact that you are concerned about my children being around the JWs and possibly being deceived. I am not so arrogant as to think that we are immune to spiritual attacks, but I am taking the time to educate them as I "study" independently and am "making sure of all things". So far, in my humble opinion, the JWs haven't scored any "points" in their hearing, and I am careful to share stories from the Board, so the kids will know that this is a cult that shows conditional love and has twisted the Bible.
So you think I should show the DVD. I don't want to tell them that I have been talking to you, though, or they will mark me for sure! And I'm not a good liar, I guess I wouldn't be very good at theocratic warfare! But if I thought they would actually watch it with me...but wouldn't they get up and walk out? Although I have watched one of their videos (ugh). I don't know how much of a relationship we have established yet, although we have been faithfully meeting them for a couple months now. I should call you...but I seem to be addicted to the Board !! LOL
