I have been advised that another convention also had a 10 minute closing prayer--maybe it is in the script?

After a few months or so, Mrs. E bought a house near the bay, and told Grandma that since she was moving she was going to have to turn her over to someone else who would come weekly to visit her. Grandma was incensed. She had never heard of turning over friendship to a perfect stranger! Friendship was friendship. She didn’t realize that she was a “study” for which Mrs. E had been counting time until much later.
Here was a clue for Grandma that all was not as it seemed.
I have had the same feelings--being handed around to total strangers as if I were a bag of potato chips. It is definitely not friendship!

That interview was very painful to watch! You can see the difficulty she is having swallowing and talking. And yet, she had herself all "dolled up" for her tv appearance. She must have been a woman of incredible strength.
A former friend used to live in the same city as the Bakers--he told me that when they started in ministry, they did fabulous children's puppets shows. He was very sad at the downturn that PTL brought to their lives. Has anyone read Jim's book "I Was Wrong"? Supposed to be very good and a humble admission of his wrongdoings.

What did Witnesses think of the movie "Gremlins"?
by truthsearcher injust been watching the movie gremlins, and wondering what the witnesses thought of it, given the demonic like beings that those cute little gizmos turned into?

Uh huh, just as I thought! By the way, I don't actually think it is that great for a children's movie. My kids would have nightmares with some of the scenes, but as adults, my spouse and I laughed and were grossed out together (especially at the blender and microwave scene--who thinks of these things?). The kids were nowhere to be found...

Elizabeth was a very wise woman. England had been shifted back and forth between Rome and being independent. One Queen would be Catholic and the next King not, so the same building and priests, etc. would change hands and there was a lot of bloodshed. She found a solution.
Yes, I remember her solution for Mary Queen of Scots.

I went to the Kingdum Hall last night....
by pratt1 inas some of you may know, i have a close friend who is still a dub that i am the "godfather" of his son.
i mean this in the most literal sense, since it is in his and his wife's will, that if anything should happen to them, i would become their child's legal and custodial guardian.
anyway, i wento hear his second minsistry school talk last night and i have a few observations about the meeting.. 1. i was not aware that the #2 talk is now just a bible reading without an introduction or conclusion by the speaker.

Not surprising, young adults and teens have been leaving the organization in droves and its been like this for at least a decade.
Out of 3 congregations, there is ONE, I repeat, ONE teenage boy. Needless to say, my teenage daughter is not interested in attending meetings.

Episcopal: in Canada they are called the Anglicans, in the UK the Church of England. You remember Henry the Eighth from history?

by Anti-Christ injust wanted to share something with you all.
about a month ago i call my very active jw father and ask him a few questions about an awake article (the famous one oct 8 1968) and about the "obedience and submission" article and to call me back and give me some information.. well he did not call back and friday my sister in law calls me and tells me that some jw are saying i am an apostate.

Hortensia: I thought your first comments were beautiful:
I wonder what would happen if you wrote him a note that says "I know you didn't really mean those awful things you said. I love you. I forgive you."
To me this seems a very Christ-like response to a very emotional conversation. Of course Dad is scared that you are going to leave Jehovah and will say anything to try and get you to return.
(((((((Anti-Christ)))))) don't give up on your family but pray that their eyes will be opened too.

It has been interesting to read your responses to church services. There are so many different styles and types of services--I tend to think an exJW would be the most comfortable with a strong Bible believing service. Someone suggested calling the pastor during the week and asking about the service--what to expect, why certain elements are there (ex. Passing the plate: that is so the church folks can give their "tithes" conveniently. We don't expect non-members to put money in our plate). It also helps to go with a friend--someone to hold your hand if you get scared! I am available to serve as a hand-holder in Ontario.
