The banks themselves who made the loans didn't know what they were doing which is why they started collapsing.
I don't know if I agree with this. The banks are businesses, loans are products, and they sold as many as they could to make their numbers. It's all about the business.
However, common sense flew out the window. I recall one couple who bought a house in 2003 or so. They couldn't afford it, had no money for a down payment, and we all asked them how they did it. They said it was easy. I agree, they were preyed upon, but they had a lot of people tell them that it sounded like a suspicious loan if they could get one. They took offense to this.
They filed for bankruptcy a year later.

the elders stopped by today.
they spoke of a new arrangement where the org is asking everyone to come back regardless of their sins.
they just want them to come back with impunity.
eby, thanks for that link. I remember reading that. Here is the pertinent part from it...
The November 15, 2008, Watchtower, pages 14 and 15, paragraphs 12 and 13, states:
“Some individuals stop preaching and attending meetings because they have committed a serious
sin. They may feel that if they confess their wrongdoing to the elders, they will be disfellow-
shipped. But they will not be expelled from the congregation if they have discontinued the un-
scriptural practice and are genuinely repentant. (2 Cor. 7:10, 11) Instead, they will be welcomed
back, and the elders will give them the spiritual help they need. . . . The elders will know how to
assist anyone desiring to return and live in accord with God’s will. Loving discipline may be re-
quired. (Heb. 12:7-11) If the person acknowledges that he has sinned against God, has ceased to
engage in wrongdoing, and is truly repentant, the elders will help him, and he can receive Jeho-
vah’s forgiveness.—Isa. 1:18; 55:7; Jas. 5:13-16.”
As you can appreciate, good judgment is needed when handling these matters. If ques-
tions arise relative to a specific situation, please feel free to write the branch office and we will
provide assistance.
There is nothing here to indicate that a sin committed while away and inactive will be treated with impunity. If anything, what I read here is this message to elders, 'Ok elders. If someone comes in and committed fornication 10 years ago but wants to come back, hold a JC as normal, just don't disfellowship them.'
Thats what I get out of it.

...although I have to say, the next time an elders visit can be called GREAT, will be the first time.

I hear you South Central. It's just that there are a lot of lurking JW's who don't want to be JW's anymore. Maybe they want to try and fade, but feel they have to confess their sins.
Misinformation can cause a lot of trouble. I realize this is an internet discussion board, but its always good to discuss these things. I used to be up on everything when I first got out. Thankfully, I have been out of the loop for 4 years now.
Nothing personal meant on my end South Central. I wish you the best to keep those pesky elders off your back!
i think she should just try to bring it.
she's out-gunned.. .
It's clear to me that funny is in the eye of the beholder. When something is funny, I laugh.
If something makes one person laugh, its a joke.
If you get a bunch of people laugh for 30 minutes, its a hit comedy.
Say what you will, Family Guy is a hit comedy, thus, it is funny. Not to all, but to a good amount of people.

Hey South Central, thats interesting. If you hadn't been around for a few years, but suddenly turn in time, yeah, you'll be on the elders radar for sure.

Whatever those elders said to you South Central, I don't think they are right. At best, they didn't understand a letter that came out. That is not surprising, so many letters are read to the body as opposed to each elder reading them (as they should), so everyone hears different things.
I doubt there is much of anything thats changed. If you sin "grossly", the elders will want to know to give you a JC.
If one can now sin while not attending meetings or professing to be a JW and can get off without a JC, do you know how many JW's will take a 3 year vacation?
