Are They Numbers or Are They People
by AllTimeJeff ini am thinking of this for my latest blog, but it's good to share it with you all.. .
i imagine that those who have never been jehovah's witnesses and just hear about them or perhaps "know" a couple must wonder, "why all the fuss?".
since we have moved into the internet age, everyone is an expert.

Good point sir82. As an aside, I highly doubt half come back. Maybe 1/3 of the number?

My buddy bonnzo mentioned how this article seems to directly contradict Acts 17:11 about the Beroeans. And there are other NT scriptures that appear to command Christians to test everything they hear and not to follow a man's interpretation of scripture. Some of my favorites are:
1 John 4:1: “Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.”
2 Cor. 13:5: “Keep testing whether you are in the faith, keep proving what you yourselves are."
1 Thess. 5:21: “Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine.”
John 4:24: "God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth."
I don't see how a Christian can read these verses and still believe that he should unquestioningly follow a group of men.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, if you read WT articles from 10,20 years or older, that encourage you to do this kind of study, you have to "keep up". Ridiculous. Whereas once you were allowed, no you can't. Unbelievable.

Don't mean to be pedantic, but numbers are what I "do" for a living....
No problem, I get anally retentive, which is another word for pedantic.
In all seriousness, I did my number crunching around midnight last night. (zzzzzz) Did I present the numbers inaccurately?

When referring to the number of people, do not use the word "amount". Use the word "number".
Thanks!

That's gotta hurt. Sorry you had to learn a lesson on shunning the hard way. I'm glad you had some contact with him before he was lost.
He called me on occasion. We talked. I broke the rules toward the end. I had to take a phone call!
He got so bad toward the end, and he did it to himself. Thanks to my parents, he did have a lot of help, he just didn't respond. Would he have benefited from some support and help from his religion? You bet!
can i send this to my kid at bethel????????........oompa
just shoot me.....
Of course you can oompa. Don't worry, in my experience, there isn't a kid who goes to bethel who comes back thinking of the borganization the same way. They see the "bethel weird" brothers, the idiotic morning worship, this might go along way in speeding up his seeing the borg for what it really is. don't give up hope!

What about people who die? This is commonly assumed to be about 1% annually, or about 60,000 a year, 600,000 for a decade. (assuming a Witness population of 6 million) I think the mortality rate for Witnesses may be slightly higher than 1% because the age profile of JW publishers is probably older than the general population, plus there is a large JW presence in many countries with poorer mortality rates than the commonly cited 1%.
This could very well be. Lets do the math on this. The numbers from the Yearbooks for the period average 270,000 baptized per year.
60,000 per year die.
80,000 per year disfellowshipped
That still leaves 130,000 per year, who either fade, go inactive, etc.
Thats a significant number, and its a fascinating statistical anomaly. It definitely says not all is well with the spiritual paradise.
