Governing Body 2.0
by drew sagan ini borrow the phrase gb 2.0 from alltimejeff, who used it yesterday in the post about theodore jaracz's death.. i was interested in starting a thread that addresses the new leadership regime that has emerged within the wts, especially in light of changes (albeit mundane) the organization has undertaken over the past 15 years or so.
while few of us have had close contact with the men in charge, changes they have made in recent years surly reflect a definable leadership style.
it also reveals a little bit about how they view the organization and its future.. from what i can put together, it seems that there a few obvious things to note.. - 1999 seems to be the sea change year in terms of gb appointment and might be seen sybolically as a turning point in terms of leadership for the group.

CoCo
First of all, I rarely get to tell you how your gentle soul is revealed in your own writings. Hope things are well with you.
I have been referring to the GB of the 90's and beyond as Version 2.0 as a mockery, comparing them to updated computer software, mostly Windows, which always comes out with updates that don't work.
Every now and then, my penchant for being a smart ass comes in handy with writing.
Drew Sagan, great thread. I read it with interest. Good points you and others have made.

Religion and Cults
by alice.in.wonderland ini've heard certain people here refer to jehovah's witnesses as a mind-control cult, high-control cult; theories perpetrated for how long i don't know, but at least since the days of ray franz.
i had spent nearly forty years as a full time representative, serving at every level of the organizational structure.
the last fifteen years i had spent at the international headquarters, and the final nine of those as a member of the worldwide governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

Mary, I haven't had enough JW Blue yet...
Wait, I guess I have had the wrong kind of JW blue.... ;)
I tried to call that number and there was a busy signal. I tried a 2nd time and the message was for me to bend over and take a Watchtower for this Sunday.... Needless to say, they were quite surprised to find 30 years worth of remnants of old WT's. (I had a JW enema)
Ok, thats all I have for gross metaphorical jokes....

I am still stuck between Glennfidich 18 year old and Johnny Walker Green. I still haven't had a shot of blue yet. I might take care of that this weekend in lieu of Teddy J's passing. Seems like as good a reason as any...

What Hinders the Governing Body From Learning From Their Mistakes? Could Delusions Of Being Jehovah's Chosen Ones be to Blame?
by frankiespeakin inwe all suffer delusions but some are worse than others, and if the governing body's delusions of believing they are spoke person for jehovah are deep then they can not learn from their mistakes,, at least not when true honesty is involved.
this delusion will color things so heavily and cause them to play loose with the truth even to their own selves that learning from mistakes is out of the question for them,, i think this pathetic double get more generation time new light,, kind of gives you an idea that they ain't all right up stairs so it looks like we will be able watch them go from one blunder to another as they seem to be on auto pilot because of this delusion they have...

It is my strong opinion that the Governing Body is guilty of snorting their own coke. They really do think they are here on a mission from Jehovah, and that Jesus really is their brother. ("Jesus is just alright with meee")
On this, I really do feel they are delusional. I for a while thought I was hot shit as an elder going to Gilead, before life b*tch slapped me to reality. I have no doubt they fool themselves daily.
...and reading CoC, thinking about my own doubts, I also have zero doubt that they question themselves on occasion, even if it lasts a half second. Deep down, they know, or at least strongly wonder...
It's nice work if you can get it... Cult leadership!

Did someone say cults?
A cult film (also known as a cult movie/picture or a cult classic) is a film that has acquired a highly devoted but specific group of fans. [ 1 ] Often, cult movies have failed to achieve fame outside of the small fanbases; however, there have been exceptions that have managed to gain fame among mainstream audiences. Many cult movies have gone on to transcend their original cult status and have become recognized as classics; others are of the "so bad it's good" variety and are destined to remain in obscurity. Cult films often become the source of a thriving, obsessive, and elaborate subculture of fandom, hence the analogy to cults. However, not every film with a rabid fanbase is necessarily a cult film. Usually, cult films have limited but very special, noted appeal. Cult films are often known to be eccentric and do not follow traditional standards of mainstream cinema and usually explore topics not considered in any way mainstream—yet there are examples that are relatively normal. They are often considered controversial because they step outside standard narrative and technical conventions known. [ 2 ]
