  6 weeks of Dear Lee

  i can barely believe it has gone so fast but i have finished my 6th week of dear lee over at freeminds.

  there are a few readers daily which makes me want to continue.. each daily column covers an aspect of counseling post-jw or recovery issues and i am always looking for new questions so feel free to post them and i will get to them in the near future.

  you might want to check to see if your question is already there first though.. also responses to the columns are welcome.

  Lee, I have given thought to starting a thread on the practical aspects of a JW exit.

  For example, many/most former JW's have much to learn in the way of money management, credit and what affects credit scores, (admittedly, it seems most of the US population missed that memo in 2009), real estate, college, kinds of college, etc.

  While there are many former JW's who do suffer from debilitating mental illness, my guess is, most are confused as to whats next, and how to pragmatically incorporate themselves into the world they find themselves in. (they probably wouldn't use the words I chose, but I hope you catch my drift...)

  here on jehovahs-witness.net i have come across theists, atheists and those that are agnostic that all claim to be friends because they're ex-witnesses like it is all that is needed for religious unity.. .

  why isn't this on the ad?.

  because every atheist i've talked to believes jehovah's witnesses are just another organization of stupid adults with imaginary friends, just a splinter of mainstream christianity a lot like the branch davidians.

  I want to know whether 607 is valid or not.

  607 is true if you assume the bible is true and inspired

  607 is true if it is found in history books. Remember, there are no dates in the bible at all, so we rely on secular history for those. I assume that secular history is true, and that the bible (which isn't an invention of Jehovah's Witnesses Inc) if it were correct, would not contradict scholarly history.

  607 is true only if you blindly follow the Governing Body without verifying anything outside of a Watchtower.

  I find the easiest method the best.

  Find one history book in any school or college that remotely suggests the date of Jerusalems destruction is 607 BCE. One.

  Why not? Because it didn't happen then.

  Start there. All JW's want to do is to create doubt in your mind, while selling other products of theirs. Their point isn't to prove anything except "Lets count backwards from 1914."

  Again, if it isn't taught in schools, or anywhere, except by JW's, who rely on that date, and then discourage anyone from doing independent investigation, that there answer is, "Trust us", well, trust at your own risk. Or to quote Reagan, "Trust but verify."

  I am sure we would get along in person, but alas, I can't stand any sports team from Boston since the Red Sox came back to beat the Yankees and the Curse of the Bambino. Since then, I hope a sinkhole swallows Fenway and Steinbrenners ego. I have no idea which is bigger.

  yknot, It's my opinion you're an apostate who claims you go to the meetings with a deliberate intent to deceive. I plan on attending the meeting this Thursday. If I do I seriously doubt I'll be back here.

  Not that y'all need me to tell you anything (and not like thats ever stopped me) but.....

  Ynot is the only person who has asked "us" apostates to give AIW a chance.

  AIW responds by calling her of all people an apostate. This makes me what, a jedi?

  If anyone wonders why this two bit excuse of a troll is being identified as such by "us" apostates, when he/she/it starts threads with inflammatory words like "nazi propganda", quotes Ayn Rand, steadfastly defends JW's by cutting and pasting unrelated junk, then takes a dump on those who defend he/she it (like yknot) who would actually like to believe there is a heart and a soul behind the juvenile delinquent who is laughing their ass off, posting in their pajamas and waiting for momma and dadda to come home to tuck them in (right before the Clearasil is applied, hopefully to the face...)

  AIW, I only speak for myself, but I seriously hope you won't be back here either. Hope you're enjoying 11th grade. (again.)

  this is an internet board.

  as such, what makes it relevant, cool, or otherwise, are the people who choose to make themselves a part of this particular community.. internet forums of any stripe have regulars, visitors, curious, lurkers, and of course, trolls.

  jw internet communities are no different.. many regulars who are here used to be jw's, and left for one reason or another.

  Believe me, I understand. I am for understanding, but I at least need to see some ability to be honest on one thing. Be it the pedophile scandal, 1914, anything where they at least admit that yeah, my religion got it wrong and still does.

  That is honest.

  I am happy for you WMF. It is a process to leave. I am glad you are at the point you are. Whether you ultimately choose to hang out on JWN or not is inconsequential to the fact that you are getting out of the fog. Peace!
