  Why do women love religion?

  i've pondered this so much.

  most religions, even though they are male-dominated, boast a predominately female population.

  i've tried and tried to understand why otherwise independent women would give up their autonomy to a man-led faith and just recently i think i understand why...women, much more so than men, are in need of protection.

  Did anyone actually look at the stats???

  I found an article last week that clearly said that in a survey in the U.S. in 2003 (?) that jehovahs witness is 71% female.... thats amazing and great picking for the boys!

  But what does it actually mean... there were not any other of the 20 or so mainstream religions represented in the survey that even came close to this differentiation.

  71% is a huge proportion to be female, maybe one day they wont be able to breed if this trend continues, which will mean 1 of two things,

  1 the society will change its view on homosexuality HA HA or;

  2 the JW's will eventually collapse and cease to be a liegitamite cause in society as there will be no more progeny as they cant breed females with females HA HA AGAIN

  Im curious.. how many menbers here

  being new here i am curious how many menbers are on this site?

  is it a few hundred or we looking at thousands.

  im amazed i put up a post 30min ago and already 13 replies!

  hi all im new here, just stumbled accros the website while looking at some jw info and wasn't sure exactly what this forum was, then i quickly realised its actually just what i wanted to find!!

  however there isnt really any introduction information, like a clear home page and if you are actually alighned with a particular group/organisation!

  anyway, i hope to read lots more interesting stories and hopefully i will find something im after.. cheers.

  Thanks all for the interesting resopnses.

  Obviously you know that it is a complicated situation for both of us. I truly hope that one day she can open her eyes and see how it operates from the "outside" but im not holding my breath.

  Drew Sagen: i definatly agree with what you said aboutthe lack of middle ground.. could be good to talk to you more about this situation, you seem almost neutral on the issue? I dont really care, but it dosent help me when everyone just takes the piss out of them. (even its pretty translucent belief system)

  Where can i acces this book that a few of you recomend reading? And if she were a bit undecided about her faith, would it be recommended for her to try reading something too. All she has ever read is WT publications.

  There must be a heap of people on here.. are you all ex-jws?

  I saw some statistics eariler on another webpage and it looks like the last 10 years or so JW numbers are steadily decreasing however in 3rd world or lower socio-economic countries the rate of growth is amazing.

  Why do they keep these records and why is it so important for them to empahasise growth of the organisation?

  It seems paradoxical that they quite readily "disfellowship" members when there goal is growth?

  I started in interesting thread he he he

  she has been bac for 4 weeks and we are continuing our relationship and she is standing strong that she wants to be with me, which has been very difficult for her, but shes just not sure how she will be judged, the family is ok wit it, albeit concerned for her future, but thts normal. Its the congregation officials or elders whoever it is that has to meet wit her in 2 weeks...

  im a bit lost and alone at moment, however not susectible to being "clensed". I am fully aware of many of there illegitamit principles and biblical "translations" that dont really stack up. but just need to know what might b the outcome if we continue in the future.

  yeah i could jump into the deep end i suppose, im sure you all heard it before, the same old thing. Im happily a moral catholic (not a regular church goer though!) and i recently met a beautiful girl who i quickly fell for. She is French! and im Australian. Anyway shes a JW from day dot and so is all her family and friends. I know a lot about the whole thing becaus i did a heap of research a couple years ago after a colleuage revealed her secrets (she is a JW too). Anyway im not at all against someone having beliefs, thats what makes us human right?

  But im not sure what will happen to my partner now because we agreed to continu our realationship and she has returned to her family in france to face the music... however she wants to repent the bad things done while here and be a good JW again. I'v read so much information about rejection from the congregations and 'disfellowshipping' and im really worried for her. Its her life and i dont really want to change her, but im a little affraid she might not hav any choice in the matter when the jury hand down there verdic in 2 weeks time.

  I shouldn't tell too much personal stuff in public so if anyone can help send me an email.

  i should reiterate that we are happily 'together' but there are obviously lots of things to work out before we meet again.
