  Is Watchtower's position on smoking consistent with its position on masturbation?

  watchtower considers masturbation to be a form of uncleanness but not a disfellowshipping offence because the bible says nothing about masturbation.

  a jw who masturbates is likely to face no more than losing privileges in the congregation.. like masturbation, smoking is considered by jws to be a form of uncleannes and like masturbation, the bible says nothing about it.

  but a jw who smokes faces disfellowshipping.. yes, smoking is known to be deleterious to a person's health whereas the jury is still out on the adverse health effects of masturbation.

  Same thing they told me.  Got drunk once, smoked once, had a girlfriend.  They said I wasn't repentant, and DF'd me for that, not for the actual behavior.  I didn't appeal, my roommate got DF'd because he was my roommate.  He wasn't doing anything wrong at the time (that they knew about) they just DF'd him because we lived together when I got the boot.  He appealed and lost. 

  Your DF story reminds me of one my dad was involved in.  He was was on a committee that sounds similar to this on the western side of Michigan.  They had called in elders from other congregations because there were other elders involved in the situation.  He was proud to have done his duty.  I don't know what the fallout was, it was from a town north of me, one that seemed to have more fun than our Congregation did. 
  

  Anyway, it seems that a lot of times they DF somebody just to make an example of them regardless of the severity of the "offense".  Odd that the WBTS wouldn't step in for you, just let the locals run the show.

  well it's been over a decade since i've been active here.

  life got busy, had some ups and downs, but life is good!.

  Thanks everyone! There's a couple names I recognize... mouthy, Gopher. Hopefully some of the others I used to chat with will still be around. I haven't been able to find an IM on the site, must have been lost in the remodel.

  Life has been great, haven't done anything super exciting so I won't bore you with details... yet.

  I've been supporting recovering JWs locally, we even have our own little Black Sheep group that gets together from time to time. I figure it's time to come back here and repay the favor for those that helped me.

  Well it's been over a decade since I've been active here. Life got busy, had some ups and downs, but life is good!

  So what's new? It looks like Simon is still in charge of the place, although the look is a bit different from last time I was here.

  I wasn't as prolific of a poster when I was here before, did more lurking than posting, but I can credit this site with being the most effective tool in my recovery. Thanks to those whose names I've forgotten who helped me!

  I've got some other stuff to chat about, but thought I would start with an introduction before I got into the serious stuff.

  Odd that I'm just reading this post but I haven't been on the board in a while. I grew up with Sean, he was a great kid. I was surprised that he stayed with the JWs, always thought life would lead him in a better direction.

  I haven't been able to find any details yet.

  Looks like I have to stop by the board more often. :)

  Does anyone have a Pontiac Vibe?

  I have an all wheel drive Vibe. Bought it at the beginning of December and have put almost 7000 miles on it already. Other than being a bit under powered I have no complains. It has a lot of Toyota influence in it, so if you are used to the average Pontiac there will be a few changes. I had a hard time getting used to the automatic headlights. I disconnected them but the daytime running lights were so bright that I forgot to turn on my headlights, so I reconnected them. I really like the fold down seats, makes it nice for hauling things.

  Overall I am very satisfied with it and would give it a recomendation, would be nice to see it with a more powerful engine though. Just don't think "service car" when you are looking at it and it will be just fine.

  Dreams

  it's been a while since i have posted here, but i still try to read a thread or two when i have time.. question: does anybody have dreams/nightmares about being a dub?

  over the course of the past couple of months, i have had some really realistic dreams about my younger days as a dub.

  usually they involve me in a heated argument with my parents about going door-to-door.

  Well at least now I know that I'm not the only one! Now that you mention it Dawn, I did have a dream that I was at a circuit assembly and everybody kept trying to talk to me. I was getting really frustrated because I had to keep telling them I was d/f'd.

  My wife suggested that I go and talk to somebody about it, but I don't know if having to discuss it, and explain it all to somebody would actually help. We'll see what happens.

  Robyn- I'm doing great, thanks. Other than those pesky dreams, things haven't been better. And you?

  It's been a while since I have posted here, but I still try to read a thread or two when I have time.

  Question: Does anybody have dreams/nightmares about being a dub? Over the course of the past couple of months, I have had some really realistic dreams about my younger days as a dub. Usually they involve me in a heated argument with my parents about going door-to-door. Some times I wake up and it takes me a while to figure out where I am (yes, I am at home in my own bed), and that it was just another of those dreams. I have been out for almost 8 years, but the dreams have just started recently.

  Is this common?

  We have the worlds largest musical fountain. The water is lighted up and dances to music.

  This place has the best damn pizza that I have ever had.

  And of course, what fun would it be without the snow.

  We are also Coast Guard City, USA. Every year there is a week long festival to honor the coast guard.

  What does your online handle mean?

  a few of us use our real names as our handles, but most of us use something else, such as a nickname or a variation of our real name.

  iiz2cool - it was not my nickname (i really don't think i'm all that cool), but that of an old friend named mike prezelj.

  i won't go into how he got the name, but it happened when we were all very high, and you had to be there to understand.
