Talking about elders with families. Phone always rang at dinner time. Dad worked at assemblies. Built Kingdom Halls on many a weekend. We had to stay late after meetings for dad with extra responsiblities there. When many of second or third generations get raised (as the end didn't come) , the women just wouldn't/couldn't be that self-sacrificing. It takes it toll on most families.

May 15 2013 WT: "REAL elders skip meals and lose sleep!"
by cedars infinally we have the society's expectations of elders in print.. this is from page 9 of the may 15th study edition.... "as indicated by the experiences of the apostle paul, our ministry may result in sleepless nights and times without food.
(2 cor.
6:5) these expressions paint a vivid picture of self-sacrifice and may well remind us of pioneers who give their ministry first place in life while supporting themselves financially.

May 15, 2013 WT up on jw.org now
by Gayle inhas article, page 32 which states about their 'neutrality' policy.
although our position as christian neutrals may not have been fully understood by our brothers nearly a century ago, they sought to please jehovah god.
this is aggravating, as the wts had 'policy' for so many years that jws could not do 'alternative' service.

Has article, page 32 which states about their 'neutrality' policy
Although our position as Christian neutrals may not have been fully understood by our brothers nearly a century ago, they sought to please Jehovah God.
This is aggravating, as the WTS had 'policy' for so many years that JWs could not do 'alternative' service. This was under threat that the young JW boys would be DA'd. They had no true personal choice.
I saw how some went to prison and the WT would not let them personaly choose "alternative" though the judges would plead for them to do so. Now, that policy changed.
It is clear, again, how the leadership always blame "the brothers" for "misunderstanding," yet the fault lies in the leadership.
GRrrrrrh! How they always escape any accountability.

April 15, 2013 Watchtower - p. 22-26: Organization-Obsessed Much???
by sd-7 inthere's a study article "make sure of the more important things", and in no uncertain terms the article makes clear that "jehovah's organization" is the most important thing.
the term "organization" or "jehovah's organization" is used a whopping 24 times in the article, including a subheading titled: "follow the example of jehovah's organization".
i thought organizations were entities, but that sort of subheading makes it seem like the organization is one giant person whose example we can follow.

continued,,,
fact was, that the Headquarters made all these men to please the Headquarters/organization. Most would have chosen alternative service but that wasn't allowed without penalty to be "DA'd" Makes me so angry as their half-truth of theirs. making this decision was the lowly young men,but it was organization's rule. Ugh,,they had to live their lives with prison records,,and the baggage of all that.
Wonder, what some felt when now it changed that they can do alternative service?

by ÁrbolesdeArabia inthe year once 1983 and the brother who use to study the bible with me drove by and had a full on "charles manson" looking facial hair and beard.
i asked tina, a friend what's up with him?
tina was 19 and a hot red-head woman who was partially in the religion but had problems with fornication.

My dad grew a beard for awhile. My brothers didn't grow beards but wouldn't wear a suit for years.

So sorry to hear about your mom. I hope treatments will help again. Such a difficult time for a whole family.
My mother died of Hodgkins cancer. Of course, all comments were that she would be resurrected 'soon.' That was in 1970.
