What percentage of JWs really go to these out of country Internationals? 1% or less? Most can't afford them, and probably most don't want to even go.

I don't know how soon about legal laws would come into U.S. or other countries about shunning. But awareness to the attention and public awareness has changed our culture and people's attitudes first and greatly. There are many affected on many issues. Drinking and driving for many years only created a shrug, or helpless situation. Legally and in public opinion, for so long nothing/much could be done. The laws got more defined. Also, wife beating, (that was only like a marriage privacy concern for so long) child abuses or neglects (degrees of physical disciplines and emotional abuses, so called for a long time only spanking or discipline,,family issue only). Laws there have gotten more defined.
So, hurting anyone in marriage, and hurting one's children have become public and not so 'private' and the law(s) have gotten more specific and some would complain, invasive. However, there is more studies of the long-term effect of such behaviors impacting public society.
I see, at least the media news and tv having real accounts of the Amish. At least they don't recruit so not as threatening. However, seemingly only a peaceful people with no electricity or cars, now people are aghast how they throw out their youth and shun them. They emotionally are not prepared for a life outside, and only going to school till eight grade doesn't help. Also, Scientology is getting exposure. I wouldn't have known as much about these religions if it weren't for their "apostates" or their previous members who are informing. The Scientologists vocal "apostates" are impacting that religion for certain.
Extreme practices within some Islam sects and even some Christian groups, have the laws challenged.
Laws do get defined, but very slowly.

watchtower tones down apostate talk at august 3rd convention!
by nowwhat? inno mention of them being mentally diseased or using "lies" to deceive god's people, just that they are out to attract followers for themselves!.
p.s.
i was cringing at the thought of sitting for 3 1/2 hours for the afternoon session but fortunately my one kid got sick!!

Seemed like one speaker (on the talk about apostates and DF'd family members) put too much enunciation & emotion into the words. Guess he stirred things up. And one says the same words, but softly, less emotion, but matter of fact tone. Still, it's 'all' hateful.

"Pst! You CAN go to an international convention even if you're poor, but don't tell everyone!"
by cedars inthe 2014/2015 international conventions have been announced, and will be held in the following cities.... melbourne, australia october 2014london, england august 2014quito, ecuador january 2015frankfurt, germany july 2014athens, greece june 2014seoul, korea september 2014mexico city, mexico november 2014harare, zimbabwe august 2014as always there is a long list of requirements for those wealthy enough to attend - including the requirement to keep your "exemplary status" right up to the day of departure or lose all your money.. there is also a curious paragraph that seems to indicate an element of subterfuge.... special rooming: confidentially, we will be asking the host branch office to poll local brothers to determine if some might be able to provide limited rooming provisions in private homes.
this information is not to be made known to the applicants in general.
however, if the elders are aware of a longtime, faithful servant, perhaps with many years of full-time service, who is not able to fully finance such a trip, he could be encouraged to apply and the secretary can check the box on the electronic jw.org application that this delegate qualifies for the special rooming provision, if available.. basically, watchtower is admitting that it is possible to attend an international convention even if you can't afford the hotel, but they don't want everyone to know because they want as many full-paying delegates as possible.. my article on this can be found on the link below.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/watchtower-announces-new-international-conventions-while-downsizing-district-conventions-for-2014.

Surprised Scientology wasn't listed. I mean most people don't really hate JWs. Most people see Scientology as crazy teachings and costly for the big bucks. But their members leaving are very vocal about their dissatisfaction of that church.

by Oubliette ini stumbled upon this on a hungarian ex-jw blog.
does anyone in the uk know anything about this?
of course jws will just see this at "proof" that "the is near!

In most countries, the government won't ban a religion. However, if there's a way to ban a "behavior," like U.S. banned plural marriages on the LDS/Mormons. Exposures of the handful of negative practices of the WTS is needed the most.
