it's christmas eve, i still have wrapping to do, go to my mil's to help her set up, and i'm sick.. cough, cough sick.

as a teenager i read the following books in school that i feel had a profound effect on me and my character building.
a man for all seasons by robert bolt (a play) .
to kill a mockingbird by harper lee.
I know it makes me look a little dull but it was only recently after getting out from the Borg that I realized one of the common threads with these books is the individual struggling to not follow the crowd of prejudice around him.
I have recently started reading books by John Shelby Spong. You may enjoy him.
ok... something strange is going on here - what is it?
i just stepped down as an elder back in early november - and basically have a wife who has her hooks so far in the organization that i thought she would never bend... you know the drill - many family members in the truth - raised in the truth, etc..... well... last night we had a heart to heart about the doubts that i have been having, why i stepped down, and what i think will be a fair an equitable solution to the handling of our two kids.
it was like my coming our party - she completely bent on everything... she was completely understanding about my stance on everything, and although she does not agree - she does agree to not fight me on everything.
You know what, I'm cautiously wondering myself - because nowadays there are just so many disfellowshipped ones and so much truthful information out about the WTS - that at least some JWs are starting to think more realistcally.
Hope that that may be true but still we need to be be very cautious.

on another thread a poster suggested that jw's inherently are 'christian' due to restraint in the matter of not killing each other in warfare.. i personally view this as ludricous, as such non-violence cannot of itself mark christians any more than could the absence of chocolate in a hot beverage mark it as coffee without question.
it is a riduculous assumption that leads to false acceptance of 'facts' that are not.. jeff .

Conversely, however, I do find it a little hard for one to claim that they ARE Christian and to be a soldier.
For me claiming that one is a christian and being a soldier is compatible. The circumtances of taking a soldier position of defence if the government that has been elected demands it of me is okay for me

Welcome Cass!Yes I did keep going to the meetings even when I had left home so that I didn't loose my family. Am fading now though. It was mentioned on another thread but I just didn't know i 'could stop going' and doing that didn't make me an evil persin. It has been so freeing, although am still a little worried about family finding out what i'm up to. But so far so good. We'll see what happens.
