Jeffro,
My comments were specific to the circumstances here. When copyright issues end up in court, past enforcement of the copyright is very relevant. Depending on the usage, if it can be shown that the copyright holder isn't interested in protecting his works from all infringements, it will weaken his case and could be ruled as forfeiting the copyright. I made the point to explain WHY this action was being pursued, not suggesting that a copyright didn't exist for this work.
Since "Knocking" is a commercial effort, if he does not pursue all perceived breaches of his copyright, that could be used against him later on.
The rest of my comments were based on the humorous assumption that he doesn't even hold the copyright, but in fact the clip was from a WTS video. Especially if the content was currently being used in the "Knocking" DvD as "Fair Use". If they were unwilling to go after someone using their clip for a profit endevour, they would be extremely hard pressed to convince a judge that an apostate YouTube video outraged them and entitled them to damages.
There is the law, then there is the legal system. I still think that if the WTS is the copyright holder, he'd have an excellent case for Fair Use, but honestly, would it be worth the money to fight it?

In order to maintain a copyright the owner needs to show enforcement of said copyright. Failure to do so can be deemed relinquishing rights. If it is true, it would be humorous if the article in question isn't even his own. I would say check the credits of the knocking video and see if he actually has permission to use the video himself. It should be listed in the credits stating the source and copyright owner as the WTS. Something like "Video source used with permission from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society".
That said, I would say this falls under the fair use policy. The videos are in an educational capacity by a non profit stance. Since the original videos are provided free of charge the copyright holder cannot put any dollar figure on damages since the donation arrangement is not tracked on individual purchases. Also the clip is three seconds and not in any way providing the base of the content of your videos.
But I would still remove the clips quickly because if the WTS is the copyright holder, you do not want their legal department coming down on you. They exist for litigation and can cost you thousands in just trying to defend the charge.

Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT stupid!
by nicolaou inafter several years 'out' i can't be the only one who still gets a bit pissed off to hear 'oh so clever' apostates slagging off jw's for being dumb, stupid and worse.
grow up!
the beliefs of jehovah's witnesses are certainly stupid but then i'd say the same for all christian belief just as many of you might condemn my atheistic, evolutionary postion as being nonsense.

I think one of the most difficult aspects of leaving the witnesses is the feeling of superiority. As a faithful witness, we may not have had money, riches, power or whatever other "worldly" concept, but we had the true religion and God had chosen US over any other group on earth.
After leaving, some ex-witnesses continue to keep that "special" feeling and look down their nose at witnesses, painting them all with the same brush that they used to paint "worldly" people. Still preachers, just the message has changed in my opinion. -

Getting the forum back on track
by Simon inrecently we seem to have had a few different dramas and subsequent fallout on the fourm which i feel has detracted from its purpose.
with this in mind we have decided that we need to bring the forum back on track and as such we will be clamping down on a lot of the aggressive / insulting posts which have begun to become the norm for a few people.
we will also be clamping down on the paranoid assusation type of comments against newbies, if someone joins the fourm and you do not believe everything they post - so what, why do we need to hound them away with shouts of troll and fake etc, just ignore them if you dont beleive them.

Keep in mind that there were alot of forgeries out there. Most of the Gnostic books have been identified as forgeries which devalues their message to nothingness.
This is not limited to Gnostic texts though. There are several books that made it into the bible canon that have since been labeled as forgeries and many other that the jury is still out on. The gnostic texts are interesting and entertaining, but offer no greater insight into the old world past showing what was on the minds of our ancestors, since they were written to explain inconsistencies that they were faced with in accepting Christianity. -

Yeah they picketed our quick build. I couldn't help but look at real live apostates. I guess they had a cooler of beer in their van and one of them got loaded and all I could see was his legs hanging out the side door of the van.
I was morally disgusted at the time. Now I realize that they were having a blast while we were slaving away under the hot sun so that a book company could increase it's real estate holdings.
Looking back, the beer sounds pretty good. -

Buy a can of compressed air. You may feel silly buying air, so might as well buy a bottle of water and a pet rock at the same time.
Turn off your computer and take the side of it off, this may require a screwdriver depending on your case. Once open look inside and blast dust infested components with the compressed air.
Put the side back on, crack open your water and pat your rock, you deserve it!
