Why did the WTS ever bother to release the KIT?

in noting another post regarding a pdf version of the kingdom interlinear translation, i traversed the internet sites of several critics of this translation.

lots of interesting reading, true.

i wonder why the wts left the door to accusation so wide open?

When I was a JW, about a year ago, there was a sister who had a copy of the 1969 edition. She lent it to me for a few days. But I wanted to own a copy and I talked to the elder I studied and told him I'd like a copy. I was told it was going to be hard to get but it wasn't. I ordered it through the congregation and it was easy for me to get it because I was in college then and I took a New Testament Greek course so I told them that it would help me lol. I like learning languages and everyone in the Cong. knew that. I also took 3 semesters of French and I know Spanish. I only took two semesters of New Testament Greek. I still have the copy of the KIT '85 edition.

Sidenote - Interestengly enough, my New Testment Greek when we were reading John 1:1 kinda supported the WTS translation of it. Well, not the translation per se but the argument that the second "theon" without the definite article should not read "the Word was God" bcz since it doesn't have the definite article, it becomes an adjective so she said it could or should be translated "godlike" or "divine" but not God with a capt. G or implying that the Word was the same God Jesus worshipped nor "a god". I always found it interesting. And my prof. was a buddshist. She wasn't even a Christian. And she said that she was aware that there was a big debate among scholars as to how to translate John 1:1 because their beliefs biases the way the translate the text.

JW Citizenship to another country

i've always wondered how jws get around the citizenship process when moving to another country.. example: here in the us, to my understanding, all naturalized citizens have to take the oath of allegiance.

also i read that there are similar things that other countries require.. the us oath.

"i hereby declare, on oath, that i absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which i have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that i will support and defend the constitution and laws of the united states of america against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that i will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that i will bear arms on behalf of the united states when required by the law; that i will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the united states when required by the law; that i will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that i take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me god.".

Well, not necessarily. Think of the patriarchs and the Israelites who lived in a foreign land for whatever reason. They mostly moved to another land out of necessity. You think Joseph didn't become a citizen? Granted, there probably weren't any laws back in the time of Abraham that required him to apply for citizenship in Egypt esp. bcz he didn't stay there forever. But I don't see any contradiction there. Most people, whether JW's or not, move to another country out of necessity. Not all of them may become citizens. Some can apply for a refugee status because JW's are persecuted in many countries. And as long as they don't recite the oath or sign the " I will bear arm or die for my country" part of the application, there is no problem.

Also, acadian, you quoted from the Bible about one's citizenship being in the heavens. Bear in mind that that quote doens't apply to most JW's. Most of them are of the great crowd and they can also argue that since they serve the God who created the earth and they will eventually inherit the earth, they can do that without there being any kind of conflict. Know what I mean?

something very unusual happened the other day.

after 20 years of being treated like satan, my mother spoke with the visiting co. and told him my story.

he was disgusted with the elders who did this to me..... according to my mother he was furious.

Don't mean to mock you but couldn't help making that joke about the JW's belief.

But why did you tell a JW about what you had done? You should've told your parents instead if you felt the need to tell someone. They were your family and they probably would've tried to help you because I'm sure they wouldn't have wanted anyone else to find out what you had done.

I pretty much always lead a double life. I was the only witness in my family and my family opposed. But I was trying to do what was right. However, the witnesses althogh they were always nice and kind, didn't go out of their way to include me in gatherings or ask me to go out with them so I wouldn't get bored, esp. bcz they wouldn't have approved of me hanging out with worldly people. Also, I am gay and they wouldn't help me in that department either. So after a year or so, I decided to leave. Just told two elders - via e-mail - that I couldn't attend the meetings anymore and stopped going. They called me like twice and e-mailed me a few times asking me to talk to them, to meet with them and that they'd help me with whatever it was I needed help. I never did tell them why I was leaving. I would've been disfellowshiped because I had done some things that called for it lol. But I was just tired of leading a double life and after a while, I found the meetings to be boring and the people too. I haven't gone back in almost 2 years now and I have seen few of them but the ones I've seen, don't talk to me. One did once but bcz she didn't know I had stopped going. She had assumed I had moved to another congregation.

Anyway, sorry to hear about what happened to you. And as far as I know, they do keep records for a few years. I once got to see the files and other information that is not made available to most witnesses and if I remember well, it was before I got baptized. I went to college upset NY and I got baptized while I was away at college but my "home" congregation was in Brooklyn, NYC. So I think they liked me bcz 1) I know 3 languages, 2) I was attending a very expensive college 3) I helped once in a while bcz they elders wanted me to do some stuff for the congregation on the computer 4) I told like two of them that there was one of the anointed in my "home" congregation and we all know how they worship the anointed plus, this particular anointed was a member of the GB and 5) because I have a good memory and knew the answers to pretty much everything bcz I had read past publications of the WT on the DC-ROM. I loved the attention they gave me sometimes but after a while, it didn't do it for me.

It isn't that hard. I went through the process when I was one of JW's. You talk to the people who are going to interview to become a citizen and you tell them that because of your religious beliefs, you can't recite the oath or fill out the part of the citizenship application that asks you if you are willing to bear arms or die for your country. So in that case, they ask you for proof and all you have to do is ask the elders of your congregation to write a letter for you explaining why your conscience doesn't allow to do that. In the US at least, such letters are acceptable. Don't know about other countries. Also, the letter has to have the Congregation letterhead for it to be official otherwise, they won't accept it.

Education Brochure?

i finally downloaded the 2005 wt cd (thanks to link posted by vanilla mocha on another thread) from http://www.watchtower.cc .

for a while now, i have been wanting to find a copy of a publication that was issued in the early 1990s regarding education.. this publication (a brochure, i think) had the same title as a 1992 watchtower article that i found on the cd-rom - education and jehovah's witnesses.

however, my memory is that the brochure was more direct in actually encouraging witnesses to prepare themselves educationally for gainful employment (while i am sure it still had the required admonition to full-time service and supporting oneself in that endeavor).. "party line" was that pioneers needed to be able to earn a "living wage".

I would like a copy too but I can't go to the kingdom hall and ask for it. I haven't been disfellowshiped but I haven't been to the KH in over a year. I just dissassociated. But for some reason, when the brothers and sisters see me, they don't talk to me. I guess it's because of the way I dissassociated. I just told them I couldn't go to the meetings anymore because bad things had happened in my life that I just had to deal with them first and bcz I refused to tell them what those "things" were, they just stopped talking to me. The elders even told me that I should tell them and that they wouldn't tell anyone. It'd be kept confidential but it was all too personal for me to tell them. A group of them saw me last night, and they looked at me but said nothing. One sister talked to me once and asked me if I had moved - which tells me the elder didn't announce I had dissassociated probably bcz I never wrote a letter of dissassociationg. I just told two elders about it - and when I told the sister that I just stopped going bcz too many things were going on, she never talked to me again the following times she saw me. lol I don't really care but. I do like reading the magazines and their publications from time to time and I'd love to get the NWT in MP3. If anyone can help me with that, I'd appreciate it a lot.

Tonight's service meeting

what a load of crap- 10 min.

asking for more contributions in order to build more kh and reminded everyone not only to give cash but don't forget about leaving something for them in your will.. 25 min.

on the proper use of blood which is also a joke.. the km mentioned you cannot take the four components of blood individually in your body but every component was broken into smaller fractions which is up to you to make a decision to accept or reject.. the common jw does not know their left from their right in making decisions about the dozens of fractions of blood but they will obey blindly and not ask a question because that would be considered apostasy.. .

I few oh you mentioned that you haven't left the WT yet. I did over a year ago but for other reasons. One of them being that I'm gay. I studied, went to the meetings and got baptized in spite of my family's oposition and did well for about a year. Well, didn't really do "well" bcz I was living a double life which I'm sure LOTS of JW's have done and still do. But then I left because something really bad happened and I had no choice but to leave the WT without telling them the real reason why I left. I just told them that I my family didn't want me to share it with them. I was 21 at the time. And it is true. My mother didn't want me to tell them the real reason why I left. One being that I was gay and had a boyfriend but the other reason was worse. I just sent an e-mail to the elder I studied with and my home congregation. They told me that they were willing to meet with me and help me out with whatever they could, give me advice, etc. but I knew I was going to end up being disfellowshipped anyway if they found out I was gay so I just decided to stop attending the meetings. But I still enjoy reading their publications. And I miss that. I don't get the magazines anymore. And I'm sure they wouldn't talk to me if they saw me out. lol
