the reason i ask is i remember reading quite recently, in i think an "awake" mag about creation, that other churches confuse people by insisting on young earth creationism, which causes people to lose their faith.
the magazine was going off on groups and churches who insist on teaching science that conflicts with the bible (....).
i thought the wt was a proponent of this young earth creationism as well.
Bigmac: it's not a matter of "God can do anything". Because if that was the case, he COULD'VE freed the Israelites in an instant but he didn't. He chose to do it PROGRESSIVELY. He has his reasons as to why some things take longer than others.
Also, he could've created angels at the same time he created humans and animal and plant life. But he didn't. He did all this in a progressive manner for whatever reason that is ONLY KNOWN to Him.

Genesis 7:22-24 says that "Everything in which the breath of the force of life was active in its nostrils, namely, all that were on the dry ground, died. 23 Thus he wiped out every existing thing that was on the surface of the ground, from man to beast, to moving animal and to flying creature of the heavens, and they were wiped off the earth; and only Noah and those who were with him in the ark kept on surviving."
Just because the Bible doesn't describe IN detail how God created animals, DOES NOT mean they were created differently or that they don't have the "breath of life". The fact that animals breath is proof they do. And in other places of the Bible, it is said that they animals have God's ru'ah (breath, wind, etc).
i was perusing the 1943 "truth shall make you free" book and i found this on page 302:.

Well, to be fair, just because someone is not aware of a prophecy DOES NOT mean the prophecy is not a prophecy. Just like the prophecies about Jesus. The apostles and disciples were NOT aware they applied to him until AFTER and some of them have not even come true. Also, the prophecies about the return of the Jews to Israel after their captivity, the prophecy about Cyrus. No one knew who Cyrus would be and to whom it would apply. They only knew that once it was fulfilled.

I don't understand your question, bobld. I don't see the "contradiction". After Jerusalem was rebuilt, there was no kingdom/king that descended from the line of King David and that's what the WTS is referring to. When the Jews went into Babylonian exile, there was a governor appointed to "rule" the city. His name was Gedeliah and he was killed by the Jews. After that, Zerubbabel became governor of Jerusalem appointed by Cyprus. Now this Zerubbabel WAS a descendant of King David and he was an ancestor of Jesus. But even then, he wasn't a king. He was just a governor. After the exile, NO DESCENDANT of David ruled as king over Jerusalem thus there was no earthly kingdom that represented God's rule over the Jews. i was surprised to read in chapter 20 that sarah was in fact abrahams half sister.
in verse 12 of this chapter, it mentions how abraham and sarah both had the same father, but different mothers.

Re-read the Bible account about Lot sleeping with his daughters. It does'nt say it was in "one evening". It says one was one day and the other one was the next day. But they had to get him drunk both days for it to happen. And it also specifically says Lot "did not know when she lay down and when she got up." (Genesis 19:33)

In God's defense, the story about Lot and his daughters is in the Bible to show their relationship and their children's relationship to the sons of Israel, since Abraham was Lot's uncle. There, for the Moabites and Ammonites were relatives of the Israelites. Also, the Bible doesn't say God "endorsed" it. Just because it's in the Bible, doesn't mean or imply that God wanted it to happen.
And Lot was drunk. You said that "nobody could be that drunk" well, when you're too drunk to do something you wouldn't do whether knowingly or unknowingly ( meaning being close to unconscious not to know what the hell is going on) then you can put in your two cents. But if that's never happened to you, then don't.
ok - this is something that is waaaay back there in my post-jw mind: i seem to remember that enoch lived among non-believers, and was alone in believing.
but when i do a search, there's nothing of that sort in the bible.
then of course there's job, and for that matter moses, who were both men of god in spite of growing up (and/or at least living) among non-believers.. but i know i'm not thinking of those two.

I don't see where the "discrepancy" is. Just because they didn't mention Elihu doesn't mean he wasn't rightous or that the WTS didn't know or think Elihu was rightous. The point was that there was no one as righteous as Job was before Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites.

According to Hebrews 11:4 it was definitely the sacrifice that Yahweh didn't like. And according to Genesis 4:4-5 Cain didn't develope a bad attitude until AFTER the favoritism. Which is EXACTLY what TMS said.
Do you have any scriptures that would indicate that Cain was insincere BEFORE Yahweh rejected him?
Hebrews 11:4 makes it clear that faith was what led Abel do everything right. It says: "By faith Abel..." Whether it was the fact that he offered a blood sacrifice (which I don't think is the reason) or whether Cain just didn't offer his sacrifice with the right attitude, which God detected because duh! He's God and can read hearts and minds. Also, notice how God asked Cain that, "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." (Gen. 4:7) And 1 John 3:12 says that Cain's "works were wicked". And just to clarify before someone says - he was only wicked after he killed Abel - well, John says that because his works were wicked that's why he killed his brother Abel.
"If you do what is right..." implies Cain wasn't doing what was right and this doesn't seem to be referring to the act of offering the right things. It's followed by "will you not be accepted?" So Cain either had already some something bad, or was already bad-ish like be a mean brother, bad son, etc but not to the point of doing anything really serious/commit murder/sin gravely. If that was the case, as it seems to be from the text, God was already judging Cain and his attitude from past experiences. Remember, they were over 100 years old. Just because the Bible doesn't mention what they did before or how they behaved doesn't mean nothing happened between their births and the time when they made the offerings.

at the moment we all have our own ideas about the country called iraq, a friend of mine recently sent me an email with a list that surprised me- since i am not familiar with the modern names of many of the places mentioned in the torah, koran, and hebrew scriptures of the bible.
1. the garden of eden was in iraq 2. mesopotamia, which is now iraq, was the cradle of civilization!
3. noah built the ark in iraq 4. the tower of babel was in iraq 5. abraham was from ur, which is in southern iraq !
Blueblades, that's just your opinion/belief. Just bcz you don't think the Bible is God's Word doesn't mean it's true. You're entitled to believe whatever you want, even if it's mistaken.
