The WTS being a member of the UN for 10+ years... but if you become a member of the YMCA you might get DFed for apostasy.

What Double Standards Do JW's Practice?
by minimus inone double standard that always got to me was how a body of elders would talk about how a brother needed to "qualify" for some privilege by being a good example for weekend service and yet a number of elders would hardly ever go out in field service at all!
or how they would use 2 hours to literally gossip about everyone in the congregation, and then give a local needs talk on the need of not talking about the brothers and minding our own business.........what double standards got to you?

JW's and the YMCA
by artful inmy father and mother (both loyal jws and in their 70s) have recently joined a local ymca for it's fitness facility.
it seems to me that the wts does not look favorably on this organization, possibly to the point of prohibiting jws from joining it.
i have searched for information online but to no avail.

One of my friends (a MS) was told to leave the YMCA or they will remove all his "privileges"... they also told him that it was considered APOSTASY and if he insisted on staying as a member of the Y that he could be considered an apostate and therefore DF'ed... they gave him the exact WT article as posted (the only one that I know of by the way)
Funny how the WTS can be a MEMBER of the UN for over 10 years and yet you can't become a MEMBER of an organization that is NO LONGER a relegious or political group.
Again... the double standards

Has Anyone Read This Book ???
by curiouschristy inalso, i know there are so many informative books out there written by exjws, i although have not read any yet, as i just started my research, although i have a book given to me by a friend of mine, that i started reading yesterday, and i couldn't hardly put it down!!!
it's "jehovah's witnesses, watch out for the watchtower" -- written by an exjw gordon e. duggar.
i think it was published in mid 1980's, a very informative book!

Isn't there now a C of C second edition? I've already read the first edition, so is there enough difference in the second edition to make it worthwhile to re-read? Watcha think?
Crisis of Conscience is on it's FOURTH Edition... and it's great... It's got all the latest new info on the UN, newer publications, comments on the newer books etc.
curiouschristy... Keep on reading... keep searching... keep learning... it'll do you a lot of good...

What's Your Favorite Quote?

"the difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'.

OK... I HAVE to put my 2 cents here... I've read the WHOLE dam thread while trying to get some work done... FINALLY... everytime I got to the end of one page... there's ONE MORE PAGE to read...
It was pretty obvious to me "TRY" that you're not trying enough to see what everyone here is trying to say... try A LITTLE MORE to see what they are trying to say... and don't take it presonally... they are interpreting your words the exact same way you're interpreting theirs...
By the way... earlier you asked WHY do we keep coming back to places like this?... WHY DO YOU keep coming back?... maybe NOW you understand
<email>
P.S. Keep it up trybalance... soon you'll become a Jedi Member of the board!!
