As a kid I dreamed about dressing my little sister for Armageddon and going to the stadium in San Diego with everyone else to watch Armageddon happen, and then feeling myself shrivel up like a leaf (some damn scripture says that) with everyone watching and knowing that I was evil. Nice dream for a kid. As an adult I often had dreams about the demons, even long after I no longer believed in demons, and I would scream for Jehovah to save me (in the dream, of course).

Share your DREAM / NIGHTMARE about meetings / conventions / JC's, etc.
by found-my-way ini'll share a dream i just awoke from about an hour ago:.
i was driving in a van, and there was this man undercover in the van who was on a mission of somesort.... they were following a van driving beside us, and there was a man in that van drawing on the window with a large crayon, he was drawing a detailed and realistic mural of rainbows, flowers and butterflies...they were following this man for some reason.
ok, i guess my mind went in a weird direction after this... (the roads we are driving are completely new to me and unfamiliar) we pull up to the kindom hall and my assignment was to do recon on the the co, as he was reportedly doing some weird things.... so i get there intime for the meeting, i am dressed as a sister, i blend in, and am greeted as a visitor.

One of the greatest threats to the sanity of humanity- HISTORICAL MYOPIA
by nvrgnbk inthe world is a huge and somewhat baffling place.
human nature tends to cause us to attach greater significance to the events of our lifetime than reality would dictate.
couple these two facts together and we end up with- historical myopia.. example: about a century and a half ago, there was little or no concern about declining oil reserves.

Well, some things are better. I tell my students, who are really into "natural" health treatments, that the only reason people in past times used natural methods for healing is because that's all they had. And two of the greatest advances in health care are simple things - antibiotics and the public health system. More sanitation equals healthier people. Antibiotics were a real breakthrough and contributed a great deal to longer lifespan. In fact, without antibiotics I probably would not have survived childhood because I was sick so often with strep throat, bronchitis and tonsillitis.

Idols and objects...accessorized religion... organized superstition
by Gregor inwine, unleavened bread, menoras, rosary beads, crucifixes, icons, pictures, statues, incense, blessed water, prayer wheels, the list goes on and on.
indispensable for "pagans", christians and jews to 'connect' with god.
not to mention the eleborate rituals that accompany their use.

interesting that nuns are still wearing the kind of clothing that everyone wore in the middle ages - then it was necessity, now it is to set them apart. Every time I see a minister with the special collar, or the Americans who convert to Buddhism wearing special clothing - and buying the special beads and pillows and scarves and so on - I think that religion misses its own point - it isn't appearance or appurtenances that make a person holy. In fact, I think the greater the show, the less spiritual the person is likely to be. Even the medium height heels, panty hose and print dresses of JW women (and Mormon and all the other conservative protestant religions)have become a uniform that sets them apart.

YOUR DAILY JOURNAL
by compound complex indear friends,.
much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

I'm listening to Annie Lennox sing "Bridge over Troubled Water" on American Idol. I went to work today, I'm thinking about a new client with a really interesting problem, also planted a tomato plant and some herbs in a big pot and I'm wondering if I'm too late - 100 degrees this weekend, probably will stay hot until fall.

How far have you come?
by done4good inthe recent thread on veterans made me think of this.
for me, i can now say i am proudly patriotic, hell, i even think being "proud" is a good thing.
these are things that would have seen reprehensible to me as a witness, and even a short while after i left.

love to vote, think politics is a great game for grownups, wasn't especially patriotic until 9/11 which affected me profoundly. Now I figure, if they don't like us, we shouldn't spend any money in their countries (and you know which countries I'm talking about.) Still think extreme nationalism is dangerous, divides us from one another, and I don't worship the flag. I like to do my duty as a citizen, vote, jury duty, obey laws, can't say I like paying taxes, but I do it and I don't cheat. I have come to see the JW isolationist stance as selfish and greedy - they don't mind using services but don't want to be responsible and participate in the community and help pay some of the costs. I really really wish that the government would tax religions like they tax people.

Please, sisters -- one sheet only.
by Fatfreek ina newssource today quotes singer sheryl crow, an anti-global warming (which i applaud) activist, "i propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting.
now, i dont want to rob any law-abiding american of his or her god-given rights, but i think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required.".
not being a woman i don't know about that -- i have my doubts.

this gave me a good laugh - if I laughed any harder I'd need more than one square. I remember once in china, at a very nice hotel, they had attendants in the lobby restroom who would hand each person one square of toilet paper as they went in the restroom. So we all just went to the friendship store and bought rolls of paper to take in our backpacks - probably ruined their plumbing.

they made it a nightmare Im just VENTING
by LovesDubs inwhat is the matter with people anyway??
you guys know that i went to california because my sister in law is dying... while i was there my sister and my mother who flew out there and met me, made it a living hell for me.
all week long riding my ass about what they considered proper "behavior" for the circumstances which i apparently was incapable of performing.

I think a situation like that, a serious illness and death, causes people to go to extremes, either it brings out the best in them or the worst. I know of relatives who went into someone's house and emptied the closet while the rest of the family was at the funeral. And the number of times you hear that so and so "would have wanted it this way" to justify the most self-serving greedy behavior is just amazing.
so go ahead and vent, get it off your chest so you feel better.

I'm going to be disfellowshipped on Wednesday
by Thinking of Leaving inthe elders cames to my home on saturday and i didn't answer the door, so they told my sister to relay the message.
the message was "you know what it's about, we're going to make the announcement next meeting".
i knew it was coming...but it feels so weird.

I was wondering how you are doing - too bad you aren't here so we could go out and entertain ourselves somehow! Maybe you ought to get out and do something physical so you are tired and sleep tonight - and you can distract yourself from how you are feeling. It just takes time to get over stuff like this, so keeping busy helps. I'll be thinking about you.

A friend sent me this link:
I put in my address and it popped up with a map with little red squares showing registered sex offenders near my house - oooh ick - it was really disgusting. You click on a little red square and it shows the sex offender's name, photo, address, what he/she was convicted for, all sorts of useful information. John Walsh recommends showing the information to your kids.
