You're right, Talesin. It's a good thing to do, and fun. I have to look around for some other thing like that to do. Elections don't come along very often! I was a Precinct Inspector this time, my second time being an inspector. All that means is that I organize the folks in my precinct team and try to solve problems. I feel quite inadequate, as a matter of fact, but I did tell them I'd do whatever was needed and that was what they needed.

I was a poll worker
by Hortensia ini worked the election yesterday, here in california, poll worker, from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. it was fun and interesting, went pretty smoothly, nice day.
it was very depressing to come home, look at the news, and find that the republicans now control the senate.. .

Words that irritate
by punkofnice ini have words that irritate me and not always without reason.. my latest hate is the word: 'solutions' as used by so many businesses in their title these days.
y'know, 'something innane business solutions' and such balderdash.. i loathe that word now.

ah, punkofnice, I'm with you! I detest businesses that include the word concept in their names. Watchamacallit Concepts. I refuse to buy from any business that uses the word concept as a name. Argh.

I'm glad it's working out for you -- not a terrific fight, just facing reality. Your children may not understand, but in the long run they'll be better off.

If Republicans think people should be rewarded for their hard work, why not raise the minimum wage?

I vote Libertarian, as it happens. I think Republicans are greedy corporate scum who live off the masses. I think Democrats aren't much different. I think Americans are stupid to constantly bitch about oppression and then vote for the oppressors.
I disagree slightly with the Libertarians -- I do think we need a safety net for our poorest citizens and for children. I'm a peacenik and always have been.
Well, I'm disappointed, to say the least.

Poll worker -- $9.00/hr. 16-hour day. Lots of fun. Nice paycheck when it comes in a couple of weeks.
Plus, the polling place was a church. Take that, wtbts!

Do you think Canada would take me? I'm kind of old and broken down, but also kind of cute and I don't cause any trouble. Maybe they'd let me live there. I don't want to live in a country where the voters are that stupid. Maybe some other country with more sensible policies would let me in. . .

Do you have hope for mankind?
by noontide inlet me start off by acknowledging that my current mood/thoughts reflect the fact that ive watched a few documentaries recently (blackfish, surviving progress, etc.
) and they got me thinking about the future of mankind.
mainly the question, do i hold out hope for the future of mankind?.

I agree. It is quite possible that some loony running a country with nuclear power might just fire a nuclear weapon off, starting a really bad bad war. Or, some disease like ebola could cause massive death around the world. Most likely scenario is that humans will just keep polluting the earth until it just can't sustain life any more. How long? A few more generations of it and the world is doomed!
All I can do is vote, and contribute as little as possible to the pollution myself.
It is rather discouraging to see how fast the Islamic State nutsos have moved, one possible future is that religious extremists will get power over more and more of the world.
