It would be nice if employees and employers split the cost of unemployment insurance -- which is not an entitlement -- it would maybe be more fair to employers. Employers don't decide who gets unemployment benefits. They can lodge a protest if they disagree with a decision from the unemployment board, but they don't get to make the final decision.
I paid into Social Security my whole working life. I don't see it as an entitlement. I paid into Medicare, too, although I don't qualify for that yet.
The government has to do something -- either create jobs so people can buy their own health insurance, pay their own rent, etc., or help out the poorest folks.

Not sure any more, I think it was Feb. 1982 when I quit going, or soon after that. I was severely depressed (pioneering can do that to a person) and just gave up. Saw a bumper sticker that said, "Since I gave up hope, I feel better." It turned out to be true! The bumper sticker helped; one of the last talks I attended was about the difference between a spiritual man and a fleshly man -- that convinced me I was birdfood right there. No point in trying to get their approval any more.
Counseling helped enormously. Distance helped quite a bit, too.

It's very detailed and comprehensive, isn't it? I am particularly interested in items b and c:
b. what institutions and governments should do to achieve best practice in encouraging the reporting of, and responding to reports or information about, allegations, incidents or risks of child sexual abuse and related matters in institutional contexts;
c. what should be done to eliminate or reduce impediments that currently exist for responding appropriately to child sexual abuse and related matters in institutional contexts, including addressing failures in, and impediments to, reporting, investigating and responding to allegations and incidents of abuse;
You could not describe what religious institutions do regarding reports of pedophilia as "best practice." It will be very interesting to see "best practice" defined, and then see how institutions like the wtbts respond.
Can you think of any institution that does NOT cover up allegations of child abuse until forced to face the issue? Well, maybe schools and doctors report the problem responsibly nowadays. Can't think of any other institutions that act responsibly in this regard. -

oh well, I guess I was at the bottom of the heap. Single pioneer woman, poor and meaningless within in the cong. Although I had some friends, of course once I disappeared, not much contact.

it hardly matters if you had status of some sort in a cult, eh? At least it doesn't matter to me.
I notice that sometimes folks on JWN seem to still regard former elders and Bethelites as somehow important because of their former roles in the org.

One experience in our old Kingdom Hall that still HAUNTS me
by Newly Enlightened inthe following is a true experience and my daughter gojira101 will verify that it happened to her.
an experience from our family's past that still haunts me and started my questioning whether this is the true organization of god or not.. my daughter, who has always been a good kid, never gave us any problems [she's an adult now] started regular pioneering.
within a few weeks of her starting, she fell on a steep hill and tore open her knee and had to have several stitches.
