My daughter wants to see it so I will be setting the alarm for 3:00 AM. But it's clear out which is a rarity in Western WA so I better get her up to see it. It's not like I have a day job or anything.

Some pictures from a recent trip

Great pics! Old growth forests have an incredible smell of ozone and the trees. It is energizing and I wish I could bottle it up. Last week I was in an old growth forest and will be going to another to hike to some hot springs on Fri.
Three of my eight acres is old growth douglas fir and the trees are huge. I have used a few of the limbs that have fallen off in some woodworking projects. They have very tight rings which makes for great strength and grain fiquring.

Work Contest unburies pain
by forsharry innot sure why i'm writing this really.
i'm a grown woman and should be able to deal with these things in a more constructive way.
and yet here i am... my job is doing a contest...bring in your prom photo and the neatest one will win a really cool prize (it's a weekly celebration for back-to-school around here - i'm in the newspaper business.

I had the same thing happen when my daughter started soccer this spring. I saw how much she was having and the spirit of teamwork along with learning how to be a graceful winner and loser. For some strange reason that made me extremely angry that I was never alowed to play any organized sports when I was kid.
It's those little triggers we can never anticipate or plan for that just pop up and screw with us.
My JW mom actually had the nerve to ask if she could come see a game! I am still trying to fiqure that one out. She never allowed any of her three kids to play sports but wants to come watch her grand kid play. (WTF?)

finding old friends
by shawnshawn inhello everyone, first post.
i have been df for 18 years, recently started thinking about old friends i had.
any tips on how to find people from congregations?
-

Welcome to JWD! You can increase your odds if you put down your state or region on your profile. I came here hoping to find some friends also from way back. So far I have found only one JWD member that went to any of the halls I did. But sooner or later I should run across some more.

We cut our electricity bill in half
by rebel8 inwe did it by reducing television and air conditioner usage, being more conservative about using the oven, getting rid of an old freezer, and changing our light bulbs.
.
i'm very proud of us!

We keep our power reduced by 60% by using wood heat vs the forced air electric furnace. The air in the house is not as dry which is healthier and nothing beats the radiant heat from wood. Not to mention the multiple power outages we get each winter. Our generator can not run the furnace.

Smell like a jock strap or like a perfumed girl? Shower Soap ?...
by Little Drummer Boy inon the strength that my recent post concerning cheetos went to 3 pages and was referenced in at least 3 other threads, i feel that the time has come to discuss another most important topic: shower soap.. this thread topic most definitely falls under the category of intellectual starvation topics, so you should be forewarned that terry will not approve.
heh...(just funnin' yah terry).
to the point: i here refer to a liquid soap meant to be applied to a wet shower poof and then scrubbed onto the skin.

Horrible life,
Homemade soap cleans just as good as any commercial soap does. Alot of people use castille soap they buy at the store. That is essentially the same stuff I make. There are only two ingredients so it's not like the homemade version can be be screwed up. it either soponifies (becomes a solid) or it doesn't. If it doesn't turn out you can't use it as soap.
A local health food store carries handmade soap and it is very pricey and sells very fast.

What is your opinion of prayer?
by journey-on indo you still pray?
how are your prayers different now that you're not a jw?
what do your prayers involve?
-
BrentR
I have been facinated by the research on collective conciousness. Since almost every religion from every culture has some form of prayer there may be something to it. Of course JW's and most christian sects would label as demonic/occult because calling it collective conciousness does not involve god.
I use positive thought projection but that is a far cry from prayer.

I spend less then $20 a year for all my soap needs. Plus as Hortensia mentioned it's hypo-allergenic and has no questionable chemicals in it. If your soap happens to made in China god only knows what they are putting in it.

Then I would go for it. It is an investment not a purchase and will save $$$ and add value to your home when the day comes to sell it. I will never see natural gas where I am at or cable tv. We are at the end of the power grid so not only does the power go out alot it takes a month of sundays before it gets fixed.
