Of all the JW's stupidass rules, no sports was the one that made the least sense to me. It's bad enough that we all stood out like a turd in a punch bowl when we were in school but lets make sure they don't have any fun either.

"He's the Last Doughboy" - end of a generation
by Bonnie_Clyde inan article i saw in the detroit free press about a month ago.
frank buckles at age 107 is the sole surviving u.s. veteran of world war i. there were 4 million american veterans of the first world war and frank is the only one left.
interesting, the term that the article uses in the 3rd paragraph: "it will salute a generation that led the nation through a great war, a great depression, a great renewal.".

State A Simple Opinion About JWD Members
by nicolaou inwe share a common past but have travelled many different roads to find each other here.
our outlooks and perceptions of reality are varied and often fascinating.
most of us are encouraging, funny, helpful and kind while others are still wrapped in bitterness and hatred or suffering from despair and privation.

Was I alone in my thinking about the year 1994?
by JimmyPage inat one time the society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world.
since the society always used the bible to explain itself i did the same.
i thought, well the bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness.

I worked in EMS from the early 80's through 91'. We often responed to calls at nursing homes and one thing I noticed is there were very few patients that were 90 or older. I realized by 1990 that "the generation" had for the most part passed away. Quite a contrast to "by no means will have passed away". I smelled bull$hit also and left in 90'.
The logic I used was "by no means will have passed away" (more living then dead) would be around 70, maybe 80 years old. There are alot of 70-80 year old people around but when you get to 90 yrs the population numbers go way down.

I feel a huge chunk of my childhood was robbed by not being allowed to play sports. Even if the Borg allowed it my worrywart mom still would never have.
All I can do now is enjoy watching my daughter play, it's very bittersweet.

Our daughter plays in a girls soccer league and loves it. Of course my rabid JW mom caught wind and had to send us a bunch of info about the dangers of kids in sports. She watches Oprah everyday and is a JW therefore an expert on everything. Two seasons later she had no injuries other then a few shin bruises. She has learned how be a team player and how win and lose with grace and dignity.
Her team last season was 10-2. And my JW mom was wrong on every level.
GO STARZ!!!!!

Where I live it's not just a drink it's a religion. I roast my own so it costs me about $3.50 a week. It's much fresher then that overpriced stuff the stand and stores sell. I have finally learned how to make mega foam on my small expresso machine using soy milk.
Can you smell it yet?

No Global Warming as Temperatures Drop
by What-A-Coincidence inhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7329799.stm.
short version: global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the la nina current in the pacific, un meteorologists have said.
the world meteorological organizations secretary-general, michel jarraud, told the bbc it was likely that la nina would continue into the summer.. this would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.. but experts say we are still clearly in a long-term warming trend - and they forecast a new record high temperature within five years.. the wmo points out that the decade from 1998 to 2007 was the warmest on record.

Sixofnine, am I not allowed to read info from the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology or from NOAA? Or am I allowed only to read Al Gore approved research? But wait! Many of Al Gore's climate guru's have turned on him so now so even that would not be too smart either would it? You don't need to be a climatologist, just have a nose for bullsh#&.
