I have been out of the Borg for twenty years now so I could give a S&*% what they think about me. When I was working in EMS I was not required to report anything except child abuse, and that was to CPS (Child Protective Services). It is the same as if you went to your medical doctor to get help for a meth addiction. Your doctor is not going to report you to the police, they are bound by confidentiality laws. Even if they were not very few if any would do that to someone who is comming to them for help.
What if people were afraid to call 911 because there would be a chance that I was one duty and would smell the pot smoke and then rat them out? That would truly be blood guilt with a very literal meaning.
My conscience would not have allowed me to turn someone in, especially while they were in the middle of a medical crisis. As a result I gained the deepest trust from many JW's. Many of them came to me to find out how to get medical help for an addiction . They were able to do it without the elders breathing down thier necks and the additional stress of worrying about what this would do to thier "standing in the congregation". In return, these were the people I could turn to in confidence in a crisis. I learned that unconditional love flows in all directions.
Oddly enough many of these people still maintain communication with me two decades later. Some are still in and alot more are out. The ones that are still in have to be very careful because I am one of "the bad people".
