Ok...thanks everyone. You've all been a mountain of help. Now I know what I'm getting into. A decades old article and inconsistent enforcement of this "rule." That pretty much sums it up.

So, why are YOU up at this hour?
by AlmostAtheist init's nearly midnight, and all this week we're doing some after-hours work.
we have to do this when the agents are off the systems, thus after 11pm.
hopefully we'll finish it up here before 2am.

It's 12:50 am here...and I'm in the middle of my lunch break. I work the night shift. Woo hoo.
And, I just found out that there is a new study out linking working the night shift with cancer. No kidding. The WHO is going to label night shift work as a possible carcinogen. I don't have time to put a link to the article in this post right now, but I'm sure cnn.com has something on it.

How many Christmas yard ornaments is too many I ask?
by erynw inthere is a house in my neighborhood that has to hold the record for christmas decorations in their yard.
the neighborhood i live in has one road in and out so we can't avoid this eyesore.. i swear, they have every inflatable, plastic, lit up, wire formed, animated yard decoration that has ever been manufactured.
it looks like k-mart threw up in their yard.. they have enough lights on the house, bushes, trees, eaves, roof, fence to signal the mothership into a safe landing from any galaxy in the universe.

This is hilarious. Thanks!
I'll share this story with you all, since we're on the subject. We have a small town in our county with two traffic lights. Nearby one of those traffic lights are two houses which seem to be locked in a competition with each other as to who can have the most inflatables and other decorations in their yard and on their houses. So imagine that...two houses dominating the block with tackiness...and it's not limited to Christmas. They have inflatables for easter and halloween as well. Eyesore galore.

Does any real learning take place at the Kingdom Hall?
by truthseeker inprearranged comments, scripted answers, word-for-word answers from the paragraph,.
no outside material allowed, short comments.... .
does anyone really learn anything at the hall?
-
erandir
The real learning that does take place at the Kingdom Hall happens after a dub finally realizes s/he is in a cult. Then s/he can sit back and observe the meetings for what they really are.
Besides that, I did learn some good public speaking techniques.

Thanks, guys...
I personally want everyone to know so I can show my wife how petty they are. That probably wouldn't be the best thing to do right now, though. I'll just let whatever happens happen and not instigate anything myself. We have some real busy-bodies in our hall, so it's only a matter of time, I figure.

What makes a person lean on one side rather than the other side?
by JH insome people, even if they hear the facts, will still remain jw's.
you can talk about all the wrongdoings the watchtower did in the past, as well as all the flip flops they made throughout the years, and still, most remain blind to this.. a few, on the other hand, will start to question their faith and put it to test.. what makes a person lean on one side, rather than on the other ?.

um...maybe the spinal column is misaligned. I had this problem, but the chiropracter fixed me up.
oh...wait...i didn't read the comments before posting.
Maybe it has to do with what the witnesses call the "heart condition." I call it personality type...gullible and ignorant vs independent, critical thinker.
Maybe it's self-esteem issues.
Who knows. There are many text books on psychology having to do with this kind of thing.

My wife (active witness) and I (inactive, haven't attended in over a year) just got memberships to the YMCA today. It's the only fitness place in town with a swimming pool. I don't care what anyone thinks, but I warned my wife that witnesses look down on a Y membership as some sort of interfaith thing. It could cause us problems in the future when people from the hall find out that we belong and attend the Y. She didn't seem to think it was a big deal or that anyone would care.
Can anyone back me up or share any experiences about this?
Thanks
