March BOE Financial Letter?
by yknot ini received an email from a sister-undercover -apostate saying someone had posted on her anti-jw group that there was a boe dated march 1, 2008 about local kh financial accounts and the wts.. my fading doesn't always let me log-on much and i couldn't find anything under "boe letter" with last month search tool.
has this been discussed?
i stopped by the kh today and checked the board and we had nothing posted (not really expecting to see it posted either).. here is the cut/paste of her email to me:.

If there is such a thing as "ONE TRUE RELIGION...
by JH inif there is such a thing as "one true religion", then lots of good honest god loving people will die at armageddon.. although jw's don't gamble, chosing the correct religion, if there is one, is a gamble.. .

Is Customer Service/Common Courtesy a dinosaur ?
by AK - Jeff ini have lamented for a long while about the lack of customer care in our area.
fast food restaurants have taken the fast food out it while the price keeps moving up.
service stations no longer exist - replaced by self fuel bays in front of a so called 'convenience store' - and typically manned by a grumpy cashier.

Man...you ain't kiddin'. And I thought it was just a local problem. But everywhere we go, we are getting lousy customer service.
However, I believe in the saying "You get what you pay for." Go to a classier, pricier restaurant, and their service will be fine if not exceptional.
I think it boils down to people fed up with getting paid minimum wage and expected to work as if they are getting paid twice that. I don't believe in that kind of work ethic, but I know those who do.

just been to memorial
by 10p init was pretty ho hum.
probably the first time i've actually paid much attention to the talk (i used to be one of the puppets passing around the emblems) - it amazed me how little he talked about jesus, and how much revolved around the technicalties of the 144000. and is the number of anointed getting larger?
i thought it was down to 8-thousand something - he said it was 9 thousand and something last year??

Oh, I almost forgot the most exciting part! We're all invited to a "Special Talk" on Sunday, April 6th at the local Kingdumb Halls!! Aren't you just thrilled to death?
Oh boy! Another meeting I'll be sure to miss! With gusto, I might add...

That way they can head straight out to the bars afterward without going home first.
True dat! I never thought of it like that. Especially here in Ohio, since smoking in public places is now illegal! I oughta drive around town to see how many of their cars are parked outside the pubs.

mmm...leftovers. that reminds me...i have some pizza in the fridge.
That "Where am I to go?" reminds me of what the elders tell doubting ones to try to keep them coming to the meetings.

I showed up yesterday at sundown because that is when the moon was full and therefore when the memorial should have taken place. (Thanks to all of you who showed us your research on the subject recently!) I was at the place where the memorial has been held in my town for the past several years. No one was there, so I went back home.
So...apparently, they are having the memorial tonight at the kingdum hall. How am I supposed to know these things? I haven't been to a meeting in well over a year.
Erm...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Seriously, I'm not going tonight. My wife is there, and I'll find out all I care to know when she gets back.

Why is today the only day of the year when I feel guilty?
by And He Ran inwhy is today the only day of the year when i feel guilty about having left the jws?
it's memorial day and i didn't go.

And He Ran,
I'm in almost the same situation as you are. I didn't go last year (my first time), and I'm not going this year. My wife is getting ready to go. Her meeting is at 9 pm since our hall has 2 congos. I am not feeling guilty. Rather, I'm feeling a bit of anticipation...no...more likely it is a feeling of dread...because so far none of the elders has come to my door asking me why I haven't attended meetings in over a year, why I didn't go to the assemblies, the conventions, last year's memorial. So far my fade has been trouble-free. This year might be different, however.
The CO is coming soon after the memorial for his weeklong visit. Also, the hall switched from a larger venue to the hall this year for the memorial, so my absense will be more noticeable, I think. Plus, my wife will draw more attention this year because she is expecting, and all these things combined will make my absense stick out more and encourage an elder's visit...possibly with the CO in tow.
I do not welcome such a visit and will not invite them in. But still, it will be akward.
Hopefully something in this will relate to you and be helpful. I don't know.
Why do you feel guilty? Because of the years of programming, perhaps? The witnesses don't celebrate anything during the whole year except for that one thing.
Have you noticed how some people you never see at the meetings or out in service show up once a year at the memorial? And that's even encouraged. It is similar to Christians who only show up to church on special occasions like Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day, weddings, funerals. If they don't go, they feel guilty.
I am not going this year partly because of those who would look down on me as being one of those "memorial christians." I remember when I was "strong" in the congregation, how a few of the "friends" around me would make comments like that. The son of an elder told me his mom and dad called them "memorial christians" and basically looked down on them. What a wonderful example of someone in charge of the flock!
Good luck to you...and don't let yourself feel guilty. There is absolutely no reason. They don't have power over you...don't let them.
