Moments at the District Assembly You'll Never Forget...
by integ ini'll never forget the assembly in madison, wi.
where some poor sap had to tell everyone that he had become addicted to porno on the net, but through much prayerful contemplation and after confessing to the elders he was able to come to "grips" with it.. good luck to that guy with ever getting a fine sister to marry him.. poor guy.
i really felt sorry for him.

The Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
by Maddie inwith the increase in evangelical churches there seems to be a lot more emphasis on the practise of "speaking in tongues".
i quite like the way these churches conduct services, with live music and great singing.
it is so different to the kh meetings and like fresh air.

I used to go to a few churches that did the speaking in tongues thing. As previous posters have said, it is from getting into an emotional hysteria and then blurting out nonsense improv-style.
I attended a revival once, and the guest preacher told me directly to just clear my mind and say whatever comes into it...just let the "spirit" flow. I just blurted out a bunch of syllables of who knows what and he praised the lord and went on to the next fool in line.
Once, I heard a lady speaking in tongues and mixing some spanish phrases in here and there. No one seemed the wiser.
Back in the first century, didn't speaking in tongues have a purpose? Such as preaching to those of a different language when you didn't know their language? What is the purpose today? Has that purpose changed? If so, what is the biblical basis for the change? It seems that speaking in a tongue that no one in that congregation can understand serves no purpose...even if it is immediately "interpretted."
I'm pretty much convinced that it is all fake, and for a lot of people it is a way to get some attention and feel special.

Wow...I have to say this is a hit against the idea that the WT is trying to hide stuff from the general public.
Ok, before I'm roasted for that, I'll qualify it by saying it is a very small hit. They still hide a great deal and this could just be a way to save a little face.
This audio only format is annoying though. I'd like to see PDF written copies as well.
