well friends, it's been nice, but just like the society this board was created for, it has deterioted, far worse than h20 or any of the other boards out there, a certain element here continue to bring down this forum to the lowest of lows, and i no longer have the patience to sift through the garbage and hate incited threads to find something worth while contributing too.
so, with those words, i bid you all farewell, and pray one day you find yourselves!.

Logical,
Have you been listening to Leonard Cohen again?

i was driving past a disused kingdom hall last week, here in wsm.
it looked very out of place with its watchtower crennelations, like a mediaevel sort of castle, with a huge sign announcing that this was now the home of the british red cross.
however, we are now blessed with a new, quick-build kingdom hall on the outskirts of town.. but this is not the true story, this quick-build kingdom hall took 3 months to erect, unlike the publicity blurb handed out to our local newspaper which claimed that the work was done in 3 days.. being involved in the building trade, i knew that the local equipment hire company had been supplying the dubs with concrete mixers, diggers, back hoes and jcb's for fully 3 months before the build officially started.. all the ground work was done weeks beforehand, all the services laid on, the roof trusses were ready and waiting as was the curtain walling and window shutters.
Duncan,
You can always tell 3 months in advance when a QUICK-BUILD is about to happen!

Come on, RR, this isn't the way.
There's about 5 times as many posters now as there were when I first arrived.
There's always going to be a few dust-ups with this many, just like when 2 divorced people try to get their extended families to live together.
When I saw the way that the Fraud post was deteriorating, I stopped reading it, but then, we all have choices.
I'd like you to stay.

All the ground work was done weeks beforehand, all the services laid on, the roof trusses were ready and waiting as was the curtain walling and window shutters. All that was need was to raise the walls into position, screw the corners together, a quick skin of fancy brickwork that didn't actually support anything, crane in the roof rafters, tile over, and bingo, aren't JW's wonderfully well blessed! It must be the truth!
Come the big day, when the press was invited, what took place was more like the raising of an Amish barn than an actual day of construction!
To my mind, this is blatent dishonesty and publicity seeking to an incredible degree. The hall took just as long to build as any other, what took place during the quick build period was just the final icing on the cake, a cunning bit of fakery to inflate the JW ideology of working in harmony.
And these people call me an apostate?
Englishman.
witnesses abstain from blood, right.....cool.
but] they will eat blood that is contained in meat i.e.
steak etc.
Terraly,
Good point, when JW's were quizzed re the juices that ran out of a steak, they would say that if it was blood it would congeal.
I was taught that this was, in fact, simply "interstitial fluid", that contained no blood.
Englishman - who will eat a fillet steak absolutely raw.
even when i was a dyed in the wool jw, there were a few things that never made any sense whatsoever to me.
like most dubs, i glossed over them, here's my top 3 doubts during my period of dubdom, doubts that were never resolved:.
"all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching".

1. "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching". Tell me, how ever does that scripture prove that the Bible is true, if a liar tacks "I'm telling the truth" onto a sentence, does that make him truthful?
2. "Disfellowshipping is a loving act designed to bring a person to his senses". Yeah, and I'm Napoleon! I know, you know, everyone knows that this is absolute tosh, only a moron would believe something like that.
3. "You fathers do not be irritating your children etc.......by not taking children to the meetings you are thereby irritating them". Now that is astonishing reasoning! I can think of little else more irritating to a child than hours of interminable meetings!
How I wish that I had listened to that little voice of doubt much, much earlier in my life.

having spent over a year reading and posting on sites such as this, i'm slowly starting to realise that there is quite a difference in the culture systems between the uk and the us, particularly in matters relating to religion.. from what i've read, it seems to me that the usa is very much more concerned with religion / faith / god, than is the uk or even australia.. also, it would appear that the us is somewhat more of a patriarchal society, for example, family time seems to be jealously guarded especially around us religious festivals such as thanksgiving.. also of interest is the usa's attitude that material prosperity can be a sign of god's approval, a sort of reward for good works.. the penal system seems draconian to most brits, it seems as though vengeance plays a greater part than rehabilitation.
the wtbts disciplinary structure in the us also seems to be much more demanding of its adherents than the wtbts in europe, there also seems to be a vengeful aspect to its willingness to disfellowship people for minor transgressions.. so, if this is a very general description of how the uk views the us, one has to ask the question, how does the us view the uk?.

It wasn't my intention to start a "lets bash America campaign", its just that, having travelled the globe quite a bit, I have become intrigued by the many different cultures that people value.
The USA's culture is totally different from that of the UK, but the fact that we have a similar language gives us a great opportunity to trade ideas and thoughts that can benefit both societies.
For example, whenever I visit another country, I will tend to avoid my own countrymen, preferring to absorb the sounds and impressions of the country that I am visiting.
