did anyone see the national geographic show on cults?
by betteroffdead ini only caught about the last ten minutes of it but what i saw described jw's to a t. they talking about how this cult leader didn't come into a new body or something like that and how although his prophecy didn't come true his followers still believe him.
sound familiar?
if anybody knows when this program comes on again please let me know, thanks.

Elders Asking For Your Number
by minimus intoday i saw 2 elders at my mother's , waiting outside, "worrying" that something might've happened to her because she didn't answer her door.
(i had just brought her back from her doctor's appt.).
when they saw me, one immediately said, we want your number to call you in case we need to get in touch with you.

yeah the last time the elders came by unannounced I called them out on it. I live in a different congregation's territory than the one I randomly attend, they show out of the blue under the guise they were out in service, I said stop lying to me I'm not stupid your not even supposed to be in this territory, wrong congregation homie! seems odd they show up right as I got home luckily it was just to drop something off. maybe next time... yeah no.

by nicolaou ini had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.
in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.
i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

I guess I never really had any doubts because I never really believed any of it. I was was brought up in it and never thought anything about anything they said I'm a born skeptic so I guess that helped.

Were You Skeptical of "the Annointed Ones" in Your Congregation?

i have to say that in my experience, having known personally several who were "of the annointed", most were absolutely dingy.
the only exception was the little ancient gal who had attended the early convention where all attendees were "annointed" en masse!

oh yeah! the one I'm thinking of was odd because I found she claimed that sometime after she died. she rarely came to a meeting that I remember and always smelled something awful of cigarette smoke so when her more than a little out there daughter told me this I instantly became a skeptic.
