"Commenting" at Meetings

i don't quite understand why you call it commenting.. when i attended meeting the question at end were read.. when people "commented" it was never a real comment.. it was just reading back word for word a sentence or two from the paragraph that answered the question.. i would think "commentary" would be something you put in your own words and give a personal statement about it.. .

why do you call it "comments" when it is more like reciting?.

or is it different in other kh?.

I really tried to expand on my comments, not excessively, but I tried to make them down to earth and relevant to us everyday folk. Many times they were appreciated. The difficulty came when the whole "only answer one point" council was given. This meant nobody could elaborate, they just had to flatly answer the question in few words, then leave the next point for another hand. This made the answers so boring that many a time the conductor would ask a very basic question and NOBODY would raise their hand. Not because they didn't know the answer but because everyone just couldn't be bothered to answer something so peurile.

In fact the whole congregation was told off in a local needs talk for not bothering to answer the easy questions. The conductor said that every question is a provision from Jehovah and we are treating his provisions with contempt.

I don't suppose it occured to the elders that actually the peurile questions were insulting our intelligence and treating us with contempt.

i could tell the wife was not happy the minute she came through the door.

after letting her get her "lemonade" in a glass, i said, "so, no rough talks today?".

Its kinda important to me that I know which meeting this talk was given. I'm pretty sure that if my dad hears something this strongly worded, then it'll be the death knell for our relationship and I'll be out of their lives. Can anyone please say if this was given at the DC or a special assembly weekend?

If I know which one, I might be able to create a diversion.

If WT have the legal right to stone us...would they do it???

we all know wt's view of "apostates"and disfellowshiped persons.

they grap from the old testament quotes that "god's people, isralites" stone to death the evil doers, even the unobedient children.

the first one to cast the stone was a close relative, parents, brothers, sisters.

Another thought taken from the bible is that of the disciple Stephen. Here was a man who was accused of all sorts by the Pharisees. But he didn't hold back from telling them a few home truths.

For his outspoken honesty, the Pharisees stoned him to death.

The Organisation are modern day Pharisees, a fact that they've proved time and time again. We are the ones speaking out with honesty. By the same scenario, I don't doubt for one second that the modern day "pharisees" would have us stoned to death if they had the legal right to do so.

I did. I knocked on the door of a born-again christian (didn't we dread those ones?) This one wasn't nasty (the previous one called me a heretic and slammed the door)

Instead he invited me in and began to talk about God's grace, about how everything is paid for and I don't have to prove anything. This man's gentle manner had a profound affect on me that day and it began my exit.

Without him I would have always felt there was something wrong with the truth but like most dubs, didn't think there was anywhere else to go.

Perhaps the GB will ban JW's from calling on all other christians too?

You forget one thing. The Witnesses we know personally are already "stoning" us by not talking to us. For many this action goes against their natural conscience and behaviour yet they feel compelled to quell the natural abhorrence this may cause and do this because they've been persuaded that God wants them to.

So if they can be persuaded to shun in the name of God, how much bigger a step is it to kill in the name of God? Agreed, for some,this would be a step too far for their conscience, but for others it definately wouldn't be.

Reminds me of the scripture that talks about those that would kill you would think they've rendered a sacred service to God. This is what the Witnesses would be trained to think. Most are already halfway there with the shunning.

i'm new to this forum and am also sacolton's wife.

alot of you already know about me because he's talked about me on here before...even has posted pictures, at which he incurred my wrath upon my discovery.

anyways...i'm about to submit my letter of disassociation to my local congregation and i thought i would share it.
