i've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.
Carl Jonsson makes some good points in his book "Sign of the Last Days -When?" He examines the "signs" in Matt 24 and Luke 21 and actually shows that Jesus was warning people DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE THINGS -THE END IS NOT YET. The actual sign Jesus mentioned in Matt 24 v 3 Jesus doesn't start to explain until he describes the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN in the heavens.
Just another school of thought.

And don't let the scripture about the heart being treacherous jump into your mind to put you off here. You are an intellecual, intelligent being with (if you believe) God-given abilities to reason and research. You are on a good path right now even though it may be a bumpy ride before you reach the end. Keep going and it will get better, I promise! You may not end up knowing all the answers, but thats ok. You will end up happier and content with all that life has to offer you.

yeah, so i've had 2 glassses of red wine and i'm feeling really chilled out, nice and mellow.
just a little muddled in the head but still kinda able to correct my spellling mistakes as i type.
all the cares of the day are drifting into the "whatever" zone and my limbs are heavy.. ain't life sweet sometimes?

so a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.
I'm in the process of checking Alfred's references and so far all are spot on. I kinda knew how daft the book was thanks to the comments by Ray Franz on it, but I didn't realise just how ridiculous it was until now. And all attributed as coming from Jehovah!!?? WTF??
This is the book that was loudly proclaimed and distributed world-wide.

If you want to know who the faithful and discreet slave is, look in the mirror. It is ANY christian who remains faithful to CHRIST alone, not to an organization or a body of men. In fact it has nothing to do with an Organization.
If you want to know who ISN'T the faithful and discreet slave class, read Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz (Ray Franz was a former Governing Body member for 9 years and nephew to Fred Franz)

You did exactly what I did. I found a copy of the 1917 edition (cost me $50) and checked the references very carefully to make sure Ray Franz was quoting from it accurately. (didn't want to be fooled by a known apostate )
He was 100% spot on, as is your synopsis of the book. Thank you so much for summarising it. It brought back memories of how I felt as I read it.
i'm james i'm new to this forum as of today and i'm a ex-jw who was "born into the truth" and then left it officially at the age of twenty after "drifting out" of it for some time.
i'm now 34 and whilst i'm not exactly happy with the world i'm living in, i'm largely happy with my own life.. one question i've got about this forum - i didn't join for a long time because i thought it was for active jw's (based on the web-site url), not ex jw's, but then looking at the threads, it seems it is more for ex-jw's!
what is the demographic for the membership?
