  RIP - The last good JW I knew

  i just received an email.. the last jw that i absolutely loved died yesterday.. he was funny, loving, kind, smart and quirky.. when he was the tms overseer, if you did a substitute talk he would say "i'm going to put a 'g' under point number 99: suave, sophisticated and debonair" (that was back when we got graded).. and, he was very intelligent - we played trivial pursuit (his favorite game) - he got all the pieces, except sports, on his first turn.

  he never watched sports so he never knew the answers.. rest in peace - i hope that god allows you into heaven even though you were part of an evil cult.

  Snakes = Married

  it has been over a month and a half since i have even been on the board, and that really only to ask about gps units (got a tom-tom) and mention the new job.

  way too busy with life - post jw now 4 years.. of course, the new job has benefits, health insurance, etc.

  (including unlimited use of the company car for personal use and the company pays for the unlimited gas for about a $25/week out of my check -- huge benefit) and this has enabled toni and i to finally after a two year engagement, to get married.

  hard to believe that i turn 30 today.. i have only been free from the watchtower for maybe 4 years.. it seems so strange to have a birthday party and have people tell me "happy birthday".. .

  Who Owns Kingdom Halls & Land?

  i was just in a service meeting where the elder announced that the kh had been sold.

  he gave the dollar amount and said it would be split between the two cong's currently meeting in it.

  the cong i attend will move to another location which currently has a building with another cong in it, but there is also enough open space on the plot of land to build another edifice.

  Just like when you are paying off a house the Bank owns the land until you pay off the building - the society "owns" the land until the congregation pays it off. Essentially they bought it and you are paying them back (with interest).

  After the congregation pays it off, they own it.

  However, the first thing a new congregation does is create a stipulation - if the congregation ever folds or gets disbanded, all assets are returned to the Society.

  My weight loss diary

  i have been living in florida for almost a year.

  during that time i have gained 20 pounds!!.

  those 20 pounds are on top of the 15 i was already overweight when i came down.. i am now at the heaviest i have ever been in my life.

  I refuse to remain at this weight!
  My goal is to get back to what I weighed when I was in High School – 165.
  I am going to document my day-to-day exercise and weight.

  If you have suggestions on what to do for exercises, I am open to them.
  I am starting by doing bike riding, jumping jacks, push-ups and crunches.
  Maybe even a little bit of Wii Fit.

  Oompa update

  i don't post much, so most of you don't know me.

  i live in nc near oompa, and he has become a good friend with my wife and i over the last few years.. so as an update, my wife visited oompa today!

  he's recovering, but has a long recovery to go.

  What Would Bring The Watchtower Down?

  randy/dogpatch has posted some interesting material about troubles in the organization.

  this info generated a lot of skepticism about the possibility of watchtower fragmentation.

  frankly, it is very easy to be skeptical considering everything that ordinary witnesses are willing to believe or put up with.. i think it would be useful to realistically consider what sort of event(s) would bring the watchtower down or cause its fragmentation?

  I think a combination of 2 things would bring the WBTS to its knees:

  1) loss of its head - the Governing Body (heck, all of "bethel")
  If all of these guys went AWOL and no one knew where they were. (like a shallow grave some where)

  2) loss of its funds
  WBTS has a crap ton of money, investments, land, etc. If this were to get eliminated in one whack perhaps by theft.

  The combination of 1 and 2 would devastate the society. Because essentially those 2 things are what keep it going.

  If the world headquarters were to die, but the money stays, someone would step up, rebuild and continue on.

  If the money goes and the headquarters stays, they just ask for more money and it continues on.

  If both the headquarters and the money goes, it would take a miracle to have someone step up, ask for money and rebuild.
