Its nothing new though, someone else pointed out its this discrepancy between the idea and the practice in the "if its really the end, where are they" thread. If you look at it close enough thats how most people move through life these days - you have a mental theoretical structure and then you try to follow that. This we see as normal but it's already a step removed from being completely coherent that the mind and action is one. But in the case of backseat drivers, religious or otherwise the action part is never even addressed. Not only is it "all theory" but the action is supposed to be done by others, the person's job appears to be telling other people what to do.

Why do witnesses tell others how to live their lives, yet their own homes..
by The Dragon inare in turmoil?.
i have been watching my witness mother refuse to confront her many problems with my father and brothers...instead running out at every opportunity to knock on her nieghbor's doors and tell them how some men in new york think they should be living their lives and running their household, calling it the "truth"...all while anyone who knows her knows what a mess her home life is.. .
for one i think she should be a bit more selective on what she defines as truth..for two i don't think she can lead by example only empty hypocritical words.. .

If it really is the end, WHERE ARE THEY?
by Do Not Call inif it's true that the end is so close (matt.
24 fulfilled etc.
), then why aren't elders, jw family members and friends .

Also there's just the question of how convinced are you that it's an urgent time of the end, I mean REALLY? As convinced as if someone had a seizure right in front of your eyes?

Yes, but if you really cared about something you wouldn't be so distracted that you let years go by without addressing it, would you? I agree that generally that's just the way people are, to some extent it is just human nature - losing contact with friends or whatever. But without getting caught up in some feeling for them as a group (I am sure some individuals do care more than others) the fact remains that there is a lack of extraordinary love which would go with extraordinary times. I don't think that means they are bad people, I just don't think that means they are any better than the average Joe.

Remember congregation summer picnics? (and other ramblings)
by WingCommander ina thread on the last page made me remember something from my early childhood.
remember congregation picnics and other outings?
i remember when i was little, probably only 4 - 5 years old; there was a huge congregation picnic at a park with food, games, etc.

To be fair and more inclusive, that also describes the meetings pretty well - except there is just no social factor - but just as much idiocy.

As with a lot of things, people don't "walk the walk" - and religion is a great example. In fact, it could be argued that the nature of religion is just a set of beliefs, so it is more likely to happen. Someone may decide to practice what they preach, but belief in itself doesn't mean any of it affects one's life.

For some reason I think of "Dude Looks Like a Lady" in reading this thread. Just random I guess, but hey there may be some value in making the post.

who should be held acountable? footsoldiers or leaders ?
by The Dragon inwould our leadership be of better quality if they knew they would be held accountable for their decisions, orders and examples they set to their subordinates?
or are they confident/cocky they will never have to answer for their mistakes and do things the way they want to do them as a result of this perhaps shortsighted view on things?.
i mean who is going to police the police so to speak?.

It seems the people need to get smart, eh? Too many sheep, and not in any good or righteous way, either.

In thinking back to those gatherings, the one impression I have now is: People are friggin idiots. Not everyone of course, but the typical JW gathering just epitomizes how utterly .. I am not even sure of the word, but how boring and pathetic human beings can be, socially and otherwise. I don't blame the individuals of course, they are brainwashed and all that. But that essentially reflects my view of the mass population at large now - it's largely a waste of time. With JWs it's understandable that you would want to cling to that in some way since you are socially deprived, but recently I've just come to the realization I don't need any of that. If it was people with some degree of life going on, sure I'm all open given the situation and individual, but it is quite sad to be addicted to socialization when most of it amounts to a gigantic goose egg.

At This Point, Would You Care If You Are or Were Disfellowshipped???
by minimus inat this stage of "coming out" of the "truth", would it faze you if you were disfellowshipped?
-
some-xjw-guy
What stage is that? Since I've been out for years and don't care in general, no I would not care if I was DF'd. Hell, I don't care about what people in general think of me, the opinion of JWs less so in some cases.
