The New Testament in Plain English and John 1:1
by Wonderment in.
the new testament in plain english (published, 2003) translates john 1:1c as: "the word was god.
" however, a footnote on this verse says: "or, deity, divine (which is actually a better translation, because the greek definite article is not present before this greek word).

Hi cofty, I like it.
Since I was sitting here bored and thought maybe a few phrases could be re-worded, I did a remix. Just to give you a different view of it. I tried to even out the lenght of the paragraphs and move a few things around. Take what you like.
------------
Reverend Knox set the planning committee an interesting challenge with his objection to the building of a new Kingdom Hall at Scremerston - I’m going to hazard a guess that local planning policy has very little to say about the Arian Controversy. When the vicar went on to hint at an unpleasant reality behind the public face of the Watchtower, he made an important point that deserves further comment.
I was raised in the sect and was an elder in the Berwick congregation before being ousted in 1996 for the crime of independent thinking - a punishable offence in the bizarre world of religious cults. I still have close family members in the organisation and I have no hesitation in saying that there are many good people among its ranks. Shortly we will all be invited to marvel at the speed and efficiency of their building project, it is likely that the hall will appear at a rate that will astonish their new neighbours. Uniformity can achieve impressive things but it comes at a crippling cost to the individual.
As a registered charity the Watchtower organisation has a legal duty to meet the ‘public benefit requirement’ and to show that benefits are “balanced against any detriment or harm”. Unless proselytising counts as public benefit it is difficult to see how they can satisfy this obligation. It’s unsurprising that a group who are preoccupied with the imminence of Armageddon show no interest in charitable acts towards non-members and take no part in the life of their local community.
The control that is exercised by a small group of elderly men in New York reaches out to influence every detail of the lives and thoughts of all Jehovah's Witnesses. Unquestioning obedience is enforced through a culture of fear and is the constant theme of their literature, songs, prayers and meetings. Those who voice concerns about the organisation’s teachings or practices are disfellowshipped (expelled maybe), prohibiting loyal Jehovah's Witnesses, including close family members and friends, from having any contact with the individual.
Perhaps the most serious detriment caused by this high control group is seen in the willingness of otherwise sensible people to sacrifice their lives, and the lives of their children to the cause of this cult. The cover of the May 22nd ‘94 edition of their magazine “The Awake” showed photographs of twenty six children under the heading “Youths Who Put God First”. Appalingly, it celebrated the sacrifice of these young children's lives in support of the Watchtower Organisation’s prohibition against blood transfusions.
Jehovah’s Witnesses will make good neighbours to the people of Scremerston. They will probably park considerately, come and go quietly and keep their premises tidy, but don’t confuse cordiality with friendship. “Only Jehovah's Witnesses…as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil." Watchtower 1/9/89 p.19---------
Good luck

I agree, a lot of things could happen this fall. It will be interesting to see if any of them will bring an era of change. Hopefully they will.

ballistic, there's is no good way to kill people, and when someone does it on a large scale without good cause (i don't know what good cause would be but there seems to be people who think that there is, so I allow them that argument) then you're a criminal and evil. That's why we give murderers the death penalty. It doesn't matter if you line them up, exterminate them or bomb them. Iraq was such an event so it's not that ridiculous to accuse them of being murderers also and bunch them up with Hitler.
New Chapter, hold on a minute. First of all, I'm not the one who said explosives were used. I believed they were used but that's not what I was arguying about. What I was saying was that in Leolaia's video, which was used as evidence to prove their point, not mine, was that since the inner core had already collapsed, I thought it was improbable for the four walls to come straight down, all at the same time. Or maybe that one or more walls would fall inward by the pull of the core falling. So their explanation doesn't hold water either in my opinion. I'm not trying to prove explosives were used, they're trying to prove explosives were not used and I just stated that their evidence was insufficient, that's all.
Can they pull it off? YES! Can they keep it a secret forever? NO!
How long is forever? How do you know that the evidence won't come out in only a few years from now. I do believe they will be found out.
The only evidence you have is a feeling.
True, and so is yours, but given their track record, I'll stick to my feelings. It's not like if I'm trying to shove theories down people's throat, am I? I'm usually pretty silent about my extreme beliefs.
But like they say, "the proof is in the pudding" (whatever that means..lol)
That's it folks, I'm removing myself from the conversation.

The only reason I can think of is profit. Also, it gave them an argument to start pre-emptive attacks using the "terrorist" argument and start colonizing other countries.
If really terrorists had flied the planes, which btw, you don't need pilots anymore to fly planes, wouldn't it have been logical to invade either Saudi Arabia (where the supposedly terrorists came from) or Afghanistan (where Bin Laden was) rather than Iraq. Why Iraq? Don't you know that the US has the largest embassy in the world there? If they were capable of lying in regards to Iraq and its WMDs, just so they could set up centrally in the Middle East, under false pretenses, what else are they capable of lying about. Don't you know that billions of dollars headed for Iraq simply vanished? They have killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in other countries (and are still at it) using their terrorist rhetoric, do you really believe they have morals, and that killing 3000 americans will make a difference, and that they would feel compelled to give you a truthful explanation?
I think they did the WTC so they could have support from Americans under the disguise of war in pursuing their world domination agenda. That's my opinion and I have no proof of it but I believe they are evil to the point where they dwarf Hitler. Greed is all I can think their motivation is. Maybe I sound crazy, maybe I am. I've seen them lie so I don't believe their story.

Nothing wrong with being a conspiracy theorist. Not everyone in Germany thought Hitler was a bad guy, right? So, before WWll, were the Jews considered conspiracy theorists to fear Hitler or were they right about him? Sometimes you find out about the truth when it's too late. I prefer to be on the watch than to be a sleeping drone.
I'm not saying 9-11 was an inside job, but sometimes I question the explanation given.

Well I can't provide evidence of anything but with all the different scenarios that could have taken place, it ended up looking like a demolition. And with crooks like bush and cheney in power, who chose and were capable to go kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq for absolutely no reason at all (well, for oil anyway, you must at least know that), you expect me to believe their version. I don't think it really mattered to them that the victims were americans. So, really, you can't convince me. If it looks like demolition, it probably was.
