  Well, how it was explained to me when I was a little JW was that the dinosaurs were created to clear vegetation, and they were all destroyed during the flood, because they weren't needed anymore or something like that. How that was gotten from the bible though I have no idea.

  Even NEWER LIGHT on Generation doctrine???

  hello friends,.

  i heard from a "brother" whose daughter is in bethel, that his daughter told him that there will be 'new light" released in january pertaining to "adjustments in understanding" of the generation doctrine.. does anybody know what this may be about?

  or what the change might be?.

  Why are they waiting till January? What if armageddon comes before then? Just think of all the lives they are putting at risk by not revealing this new light in a "timely manner"! Sorry little publisher, you don't have concise knowledge, nothing but bowls of anger for you!

  i joined this forum a couple of days ago and didn't want to just keep lurking, so here goes!.

  my family have been jw's since before i was born, i was baptized at 12.i have six sisters, only one who still attends meetings.

  my mom and stepdad no longer attend either.. i met and married my so in the congregation that i attended.

  Why can we see light from not long after the Big Bang?

  please excuse my simple mindedness but could someone explain in simple laymans terms how light from the big bang is visible to us.

  someone asked me this the other day and i couldn't answer.. if light from an explosion billions of years ago has travelled at the speed of light from point a then what i can't get my head around is how come it never shot past us so to speak before we were even here at point b. .

  i've tried to imagine an explosion shooting off in all directions.

  Even when something is travelling away from us it's light still approaches us at 300000 km/s, and when stuff is travelling towards us its light is heading towards us at 300000 km/s. The speed of light (in a vacuum) is always constant, but one strange thing that does happen to light emitted from objects travelling at very high speeds is that it becomes compressed (blue shifted)if the object is headed towards the observer and elongated (red shifted) if the object is moving away from the observer. This is called the doppler effect and you can hear the same effect by listening to the pitch of a racecar engine has it heads towards you (or the camera) then away.
  
  This is one of the reasons we can see light from objects from so far away that are also heading away from us at very high rates of speed.
