Pentecostals convert 20% of population in Guatemala. How do they preach?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe christian science monitor reported today that 20% of the population in guatemala is converting to pentecostalism.
with a population near 13,000,000,that would mean a membership of 2.6 million people.. how do pentecostals convert so many people?
what are their preaching methods?.

Maybe they're more of a 'works' type. A lot of churches will go into impoverished areas, and build up infrastructure like schoolhouses, wells, and stuff like that.

I think the bit at the bullying is just a bad metaphor rather than trying to say there's anything intentional about the black hole jet hitting a nearby galaxy. The other galaxy just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I was reading this and wondered how many 'Earths' were completely sterilized? How many civilizations snuffed out by this event? How many were able to flee, and how many never even saw it coming? What would it be like to be a sentient creature on a planet in that galaxy, and see this coming, but not be able to do anything about it? Perhaps someday we, or some other species will travel to their planet and visit their ruins, maybe learn a thing or two about their lives and dreams, but for now they are forgotten.
It's a strange and chaotic universe we live in. Just some random thoughts from a loon. :) -

The Ethics of Eugenics
by SickofLies ingenetic technology has advanced to an unbelievable stage.
what used to be science fiction is now quickly on its way to becoming science fact.
there are fertility clinics that can now diagnose whether your child-to-be has any genetic disorders, allowing you to decide whether or not to abort ahead of time.

Eugenics as I understand the term is changing the characteristics of a species through selective breeding. We've been practicing eugenics on plants and animals since we started farming and herding. Using selective breeding on humans though is an entirely different matter, eugenics was practiced to some extent in lots of western countries in the early 20th century through forced sterilization of the mentally ill and retarded. The implementation of Eugenics reached its peak in Nazi Germany. I think that using eugenics to breed traits in humans would work just as well as it does in cows, dogs, or corn, but putting it into practice is very unethical.
With directly manipulating the genetic makeup of an individual however, there is a lot less of an ethical quandary as long as they or the parents of an unborn child agree to it. Forced reengineering on the other hand would probably lead us down the same path as forced eugenics.
