I like Stephen Baxter's stuff, in particular his Xelee sequence of books.
Not quite science fiction, but you might like Harry Turtledove's alternate history books. How Few Remain is good.

Plano and North Dallas can be expensive, but most of the rest of the area is pretty reasonable. IMO though a lot of the suburbs just seem to lack the character that older more established towns did back east, it just seems bland and cookie-cutterish to me. You can get a McMansion in McKinney for about 200k. I payed about 110k for a 2bed 1.5 bath townhome.

I prefer polyphonic to plain chant.
I also like stuff along the lines of Daft Punk. I also have several Ministry of Sound compilation CDs. -

What are your Guilty Pleasures of a geeky/nerdy variety?
by Crumpet ini don't mean the ones we know about already - things people wouldn't think you did or enjoyed to look at you.. i love watching ray mears extreme survival and learning about how to survive and find food and shelter in extreme climates even though there is a strong possibility that i shall never try and escape naked from a japanese prisoner of war camp, or crash without a flagon of water into the sahara, or come stuck in my ship in a freezing ice plateau in deepest antartica.
.
what's your guilty geeky pleasure?.

Well to be honest the keyboard was pretty new at the time; it's not quite as shiny now, but it's not all grungy either.

Here he is sitting on my computer desk while I was playing an MMORPG, FFXI.
Edit: That picture is a couple years old and he's grown a bit since then, and he's a bit too big to be up on the desk while I'm on the PC. -

I've built my own PCs.
I have the entire Star Trek TNG series on DVD.
I have about half a dozen books by Carl Sagan, and I also have Cosmos on DVD.
I am familiar with the usage and day to day maintenence of round reel drives.
I think Monty Python is hilarious, and while I'm not quite at the level of reciting scenes word for word I am familiar with most.
I've beaten Oblivion, but sometimes I'll fire it up just to run around town killing everyone like that one scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
A previous one was I used to play Everquest and had a level 60 Gnome Cleric.
I own a laser pointer and a cat.
So yeah I have a few.... -
