Do the Governing Body live like Kings?
by Christ Alone ini know it's probably been discussed by the old timers on this site, but i had never read the letter of walter salter to jf rutherford before.
i see why being the president of the society (and eventually the governing body) is such a desirable postion.
it made me wonder how much of the donated money is used for these sorts of things with the current gb.

Child Mortality Rate Falling!
by smmcroberts inas the wt spews ever more propaganda about how increasingly evil the world is in its "last days", it's nice to see them proven wrong yet again.. the child mortality rate for preventable deaths in children under five years of age has dropped again!
now it's down to 19,000 per day (which is still a shockingly large number, of course, but i remember when it was 40,000 per day!
) that's down 27% compared to four years ago!.

Due to due to improvement in medicine, etc., the world population has grown
dramatically since around the time the GB says the last days began.

Actual SPECIFIC bible prophesy happening now..........
by EndofMysteries inwhen those with a christian background think of bible prophesy, it's what jesus said and very vague things such as wars, earthquakes, etc which can be impossible to know if significant or not.
they also mainly think of jesus words and the book of revelation.
they think the ot is all old law.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, some could recite the Bible backward, but
nobody noticed you get a special prophetic message if you interpret it backward:In the beginning, there was fire poured from above and a lake of fire--that
was the creation of the Earth.
People were ejected from Heaven, then God disassociated Himself from the
people on Earth.
Then they created religion as law of the land, such as in Israel, then Rome,
then Iran. Now God even felt cruel about people.
Around the time they tried reaching for the heavens with towering spacecraft,
God let waves of climate change cover the Earth, even above the tops of the
mountains, to preserve His reputation with the rest of the cosmos.
People believed in snakes who misrepresented the tree of knowledge till no
one knew there was one.
People died, then animals, plants, then the Earth was destroyed.
And everyone, which was God and the more angelic people on the exoplanets in
the heavens, lived happily ever after,
The end. -

War!
by smmcroberts init's the 11th anniversary of the attacks on the world trade center in new york city.
the media here in the u.s. are repeating taped interviews of survivors.
i have no problem with that; it was a tragedy we shouldn't forget.

I agree with Lennon about wanting a world without harm but define the problem
in a few important different ways than we just need to not have religion or need
to imagine no heaven.Without making another long explanation of how I organize my thoughts on such
things, I draw the line at anyone being hurt or killed over such belief/non-
belief things. I see the harm coming from 'centric intolerance about either,
with either as law of the land like institutionalized 'centric intolerance, and
certain orthodox/conservative Abrahmic stances. We shouldn't be Islamophobic but Islam is the 2nd most popular religion in the
world and is predominantly orthodox/conservative. Islamists are politicized
Muslims. On the LGBT issue, what passes for a retro conservative Republican
view in the US is a liberal Qur'an-only stance (just punishment in the
afterlife--no hadiths calling for punishment by human hands in this life) in
Islam. ("Don't be prejudiced." I know. Could you tell them, please?)If a cure for a GB-taught JW about to let their kid die at a hospital
or such is research tempered with some understanding of the perspective I
described briefly above, that's needed here, too. Some Islamic-majority coun-
tries (such as Iran) are rife with propaganda (what Holocaust?) and are even run
by propagandists (such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad).Meanwhile, I'd like to imagine a world without crime but in the real world we
need police (PS: Lennon donated money to the NYC police dept. later in life).
The defense here has two fronts: police/war focused against terrorist groups and
the education I referred to so to diminish the need for the police/war. Just
having no police or even any intervention is a nice dream for the ideal result
or a hope for a heaven but would meanwhile mainly serve the criminals.

Quoting out of context - ever justified?
by cognisonance injw literature on subjects such as creation vs. evolution often quote out of context, with the most recent material (the newest brochures) acknowledging that often those quoted to support the jw viewpoint do believe in evolution nonetheless.
sometimes indeed quotes in jw literature are just outright misquotes, leaving off preceding or succeeding words (or sentences) that would completely alter the meaning of the source sited (i.e.
carl sagans quote, the fossil evidence could be consistent with the idea of a great designer is indeed a flat out misquote).. .

You're wasting time confusing the credibility of the JWs followers with the
cynical businessmen who run the operation. It's like wondering if Popoff
accidentally thought Jesus spoke to him through the receiver in his ear, Geller
mistakenly thought he had psychic powers, Farrakhan naively thought 9-11 truther
claims pointed to the Jews as Satanic, and on and on....From Russell on out, Bible Students/JWs leaders have feigned extreme ex-
clusiveness--that they're the special spokesmen for a literal 144,000, and that
this is shown by the best evidence and reasoning supporting a dozen or so of
their distinctive rules or relatively distinctive rules taught in a distinctive
way.Unsurprisingly, this doesn't come naturally or mistakenly. Since these ideas
are so distinctive, anywhere they'd research they'd find the more common infor-
mation. They've mischaracterized opposing stances including by making research
sources seem supportive that aren't. Various sections of my GTJ Brooklyn expose
are about that including authors complaining that their books have been mis-
represented that way.
