Most of the comments make it seem next to impossible to sue the WTB&TS for shunning and win. But has a lawsuit ever been brought by people who were baptized as minors? I can't believe that these evil bastards are the only ones on the planet to get away with enforcing a contract made with a minor. I know that type of law suit wouldn't cover everybody who has been da'd or df'd, but it would cover a lot of people. Also, what about a law suit limited to those who da'd themselves before the rules changed about shunning them?

i have not seen the topic discussed here and have been unsuccessful in getting the search function of the site to gather information about it, but i wonder if we as a group could sue the washtowel society.

New Video Up...
by Tuesday ini thought i'd just give a quick update here if anyone's interested i have a bunch of new videos up on my tough questions for jehovah's witnesses series.
actually through a conversation on another youtube video i was encouraged to do a series about cult properties by an active witness.
right now the main video on the page is explaining the series that i will be posting about the cult properties next week.

My brother invites me to his graduation...may open up can of worms...(Sigh)

from what my mom said, he really wants me there.
here's the situation so far.... i know my aunt/uncle/and cousins, along with my parents and half of my old kh that i grew up with will be there.

Kevin Smith, Prince, and the JW's...
by avishai inin the two kevin smith spoken word videos, he tells a story about how he goes out to paisley park (prince's studio's) and basically ends up filming a documentary on prince's new album, the jw's, etc.
in the second spoken word film, he talks about how prince wanted to use the footage as a jw recruitment film.
now, smith is the director of clerks, mallrats, dogma, great dirctor, but dirty, dirty films, and dogma is one of the best indictments of religion i've ever seen.

Those crazy J-dubs are getting aggressive
by superman inwhile at work today one of my co-workers came into my office and laid some watchtowers on my desk.
she knows that im a j-dub, faded, apostate, but ive explained to her about the whole deal of dfing and shunning and how for the purpose of my family ive just faded.
but she was telling me that one of her clients is a j-dub and offered her some magazines and she kindly refused but the lady wouldnt let up (basically bullying her) and insisted on how much she would enjoy them, so my co-worker (to be nice) took them.

This reminds me of a funny story...Several years ago my friend was having the same problem with jws coming to her door all of the time. I told her to tell them that they really shouldn't come to her house, because she is disfellowshipped. Well, later while we were on the phone, they came to her door again. She told me to hold on and then came back to the phone and said, "They're just looking at me like I'm crazy. I told them I am DEFELLOWSHIPPED".

Are we hyper-sensitised to JW changes? Do we exaggerate their importance?
by yadda yadda 2 insometimes i think we lose all perspective at times on here.
that we are just as prone to over-magnifying any meaning behind relatively minor changes like this in the organisation in the same way jw's are prone to over exaggerate every bit of bad news in the world to mean armageddon is near.. when you sit down in the cold light of day, this change to the bookstudy arrangement for example, is it really that much a big deal?
i strongly doubt it really, despite initial reactions (including my own).

Of course we are hyper-sensative to jw changes, because for most of us, the WTB&TS decides whether our families will speak to us. If there is exaggeration of the importance of the changes, it is only because we are hoping that either they will change the shunning rule or disband completely. I appreciate the people who share these little tidbits of information, especially before they are shared with the rank and file jws. As crazy as the WTB&TS is, having early knowledge of their hair brained schemes very well may aid us to help our family members who are still in.

catholics, jehovah's witnesses, mormons - my wife and i discussed it and i'm starting to feel that there is something about the stunted views of religions about sex in general that creates these monsters of sexual child abuse !
do we not just hear about the non-religious child abusers ?

For the first few weeks after news of the FLDS kids being taken away from their parents, I felt a certian unexplainable anxiety. Now I realize it is because many traits are shared by this cult and the cult of jws. It is horrifying to hear about the abuse these kids suffered, but what I've been saying all along is "God bless Texas" for bringing this evil to light. The childish games that these cult members are playing will soon be diminshed throught the use of DNA testing and long term counseling for the victims. I have a ferverent hope that this is just the beginning of the course of destruction for cults like this. Someday, maybe jws will be throroughly investigated when they refuse a blood transfusion for a child. I've always wondered why they haven't been all along. If somebody is crazy enough to risk their kid's life by denying a blood transfusion, they're crazy enough to abuse their kids in other ways. That has already been proven by the thousands of adults who were victims of child sex abuse within the organization who came forward on the silentlambs website. Just as the FLDS parents knew of their children being molested and otherwise abused, so many jws knew about the victimization of their own kids and covered it up right along with the evil WTB&TS. These zealots are creating self fulfilling prophesy; they do crazy, abusive things to bring "persecution" upon themselves by the government. I say, "YEAH!"
