John Cougar (I know I'm dating myself) something about his song "Hurt So Good" not being appropriated for young jws.
Oh, that's funny! My first husband's non-jw father used to sit on the front poch, get drunk on homemade wine, and sing the hell out of that song! He was a one man band; played the harmonica, guitar, and foot drum.

Things you must avoid at all cost!!
by redvip2000 ini'd like to ask if you recall certain things you were forced to avoid or throw out because they were supposedly demonic, or connected with the occult, or even just plain bad.. i remember we were told to avoid the harry potter movies and books, because he is a magician.
also acdc music.. lol.. .
and oh yeah, during a talk an elder specifically mentioned the show "married with children", because it was a bad example of how a family should behave.

Need a little help from my friends....can you get in here and post Classic Rock (or other genres) songs with horns heavily featured.
by La Falta Habitacion Por Sr Hor-Hey!! ini'm on a rock kick again, and i never realized how much i adore songs with crazy horns.
i've always loved horns in hip-hop, (work by gang-starr is a must hear even for non-rap lovers if you can appreciate horns), but i want to really explore horns as used in other genres, particulary classic rock.
plus there's a song i heard years ago that i can't seem to locate and can't even recall any of the words or its melody, just that i loved it at the time.

I don't know if you'd consider the sax as heavily featured, bu it does have a dramatic effect. This is hands down my favorite Bob Seger song:

So you think you were a True Witness?
by FaithfulBrother infuck you.. i was raised in a jw family in the 1980's-1990's where we had to do the daily text 7 days a week during breakfast at the family table at 7am sharp between 7:00-7:15am.
this was followed by a "spiritual discussion," which was held every morning between 7:15am and 8:00am.. since we were homeschooled, our weekly field service was required from childhood on friday mornings immediately following the spiritual discussion, followed by saturday afternoon field service after the bookstudy, as well as sunday afternoon field service after the watchtower study.. i was also required to read each watchtower and awake magazine and give oral reports about each magazine i read in order for my father to be sure that i had actually read them.
i can't remember for sure, but i think each watchtower and awake was released every two weeks back then, making a new magazine to read every single week, followed by an oral report on every single article (including the watchtower study articles which i also had to read, then study in our weekly family watchtower study where we marked our answers, then studied again at the sunday watchtower study).. in addition to this, we also had a weekly family bible study at night each week, had a family bookstudy at night in which we marked our answers for the saturday morning bookstudy, had a family watchtower study at night where we marked our answers for the sunday morning watchtower study, had a family prayer together every night before bed, every morning before and after breakfast and every night before and after dinner (not including our half-family prayers for lunch by my mother since we were homeschooled.).

TY Jamie Bowers!
You're welcome, DF'd3. I hope you benefit from your time here. And you're right about SD-7. He and I have had marathon phone and email conversations, and I couldn't love him any more if he was my own son. He's come so far so quickly!

My demon experience
by SweetBabyCheezits inone recent afternoon, me and a buddy were taking a trek around a nearby neighborhood and made our way past a delapidated house that had all the familiar symptoms of being haunted.
he suggested we check it out so, of course, we did.
it looked like it had been abandoned probably 30-40 years earlier but the previous owners had left behind a small coffee table.

My friend made some comment about the property being known for its demon infestation. I reminded him that I don't believe in demons. He insisted that they exist so, being that I am a douche canoe of the highest order, I told him we should try to conjure 'em up with mockery. I can't remember exactly what I started chanting but it was purely facetious and, since none of you were there, witty.
OMG, that was really funny!
Bold is mine.

Thanks and farewell...
by Alfred inhello all..... a few months ago my wife expressed serious concerns about the time i had spent over the past couple of years reading old watchtower literature (printed circa 1880 through the late 30s) and the time spent on this site and several others.
she is very grateful that i was very persistent in trying to convince her that this is just a mind-control cult run by clueless men who simply make things up as they go along.
it wasnt easy, but im thankful that i was able to wake her up thanks to many of you.
