There used to be a poster here on JWN who went by the user name, Dawg. He would greet jws when he saw them out in public. If they shunned him, he would announce to "worldly" bystanders that the jw refused to speak to him, because he was no longer a jw. Usually the jw would run, and the people would laugh or cheer.

Good progress so far.
Pagan holidays like Christmas or Easter will be out for us As of right now.
But consider this for future discussions:
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

Also did you know that the names of the days of the week and months of the year have "Pagan" origins? So does the use of lipstick, (prostitutes would rub berries on their lips to symbolize their willingness to perform oral sex). It certainly doesn't mean the same thing now, but neither does Easter and Christmas.

Sorry to hear about this! And I agree with Sab...sounds like your cousin has borderline personality disorder, which is very hard to live with. Her husband needs to get her some serious help, or she really may wind up injuring or killing him.
I'm not sure about Texas, but here in Ohio hospitals have a program where all or part of your bill may be written off based on the patient's income. And your daughter is going to find out that you're no longer living at your cousin's house when she goes over there to cook on Sunday. Eventually all of your adult children are going to learn of your situation, and they will be very upset about your living conditions. At least go to your kids for a small loan to get you through. As annoying and crazy as my dad is, I'd feel so bad if he didn't let me know that he needed help with something.
One last thing...you can tell the debt collectors to stop calling you. It's better if you send a cease and desist letter, but you have bigger fish to fry right now. My fnancial budget is really tight, I can help you with researching rograms that may help if you want to pm me your location.

I'd never watched the show until last night. My brother called me yesterday afternoon to let me know about it and to post an alert here on JWN about it. During our conversation I said that I hoped the kid died, so that viewers would understand how serious the blood issue is. Well, hoping a fictional kid dies to prove a point was easy for me. But I burst into tears when the character did die near the end of the show.
The writers did a good job for the most part. Some of the parents' lingo was a little off, and the hateful HLC wasn't portrayed. But the friend saying he didn't even know the kid was a jw and the intern's questions about the relevance of a 19-year old's beliefs really hit home for me. A perfect portayal of the blood issue in movies or television should also include the fact that a patient of any age would be df'd and shunned for accepting a blood transfusion. The fact that the choice to deny bllod is always done under duress.

Sickening Dilemma
by ItsMyLife ini would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.
i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.
the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.

First off, check the sex offeners list in the child molestor's area. If he's on it, give an anonymous tip to the police and cildren's services that he's engaged to a woman with young children. If he's not on the sex offender's list, provide the anonymous tips anyway. Let the experts handle this.
