Unfortunately the point of the article is that in the case of Amy B., the judge decided that the WTB&TS are too far removed from the situation and ruled that only the congregations could be sued. I'm afraid that this is going to happen more often. The dirty bastards in NY have somehow found a way to not be held accountable for their direction to the elders to cover up child molestation, protect the abuser and demonize the victim. I don't understand how a corporation, religious or otherwise, can cause so much damage and not have to pay for their actions.

JW's Sued for Protecting Alleged Abusers
by jamiebowers infound this on jehovah's witness news.
please note the following near the end of the article: closer to the alleged ab user , however, were the dumas and amarillo congregations, close enough that judge p irtle didn't trifle with first amendment concerns and disposed of the pretrial issues under texas law.
in his two march 29 letter rulings, the judge offered something for -- and against -- everyone.

poll/ survey on what you "were" (rank in your hall)
by burningbridges ini wasjust really curious to see what the average of everyone's "history" is here, and also how many "higer ups" we have that have abandoned the ways.
so what were you, an elder?

What's up with this????
by seek2find inat this weekends convention july 4-6 it was announced that donations by check must be made out to the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses", and that if you had made one out to watchtower you should go to the chairmans office and change it.
why the change this year, and what difference does it make?
seemed strange to me, of course many things seem strange to me about this religion these days seek2find

Since you're still in, why don't you ask one of the power that be in the organization? Then you can come back and let all of us apostates know what's going on.

Welcome to JWD. No, it's not weird to pray before posting on this board. I pray before I get out of the bed in the morning. And no, there is no chance the jws have the truth. Most of us here have lost friends and family due to the immorality of the WTB&TS. It's painful but eventually bearable. Move as slowly as you can or jump in with both feet, but be prepared no matter what you decide to do. Form some friendships outside of the organization. Research and listen to what your mind and heart have to say. Seek professional help if necessary. Whether you fade, da yourself, get df'd or remain a jw, most here will not judge you harshly.
IMHO, the best things about not being a jw are freedom to feel, do and think basically what you want and acceptance of people for who they are. Best to you. Feel free to pm me if you need to talk one on one, (most others here have or will say the same).

So.....Are Jehovah's Witnesses A "Cult"?
by minimus inwhen i first joined this board, i felt they had "cultish" aspects but would not go to the point of saying the "c" word.. now, i unequivocally say that jws are a cult!.
what do you think??
?.

jamiebowers
Yes, and the only difference between jws and other cults like Waco, Jonestown, etc. is that the jws follow a group of men (the gb), while the others follow individual men (David Koresh, Jim Jones, etc).

You know, it's funny, but I get the same reaction when someone finds out that I was a jw. Many of our more disciplined friends love to come to our parties, so they can let their hair down. We don't serve alcohol, but there's plenty of good food and off color banter going on. Every month it's something; a birthday here, a holiday there. Life is good as a "worldly" person, isn't it?

Unique but accurate observation about KHs from a "woldly" person
by Lady Zombie ini was out this weekend with a group of my "worldly" friends.
the majority of them don't know that i'd been a witness in the past, nor did they know that my family still is.. i'm not sure how we got on the subject of religions, but one guy asked, "what's the name of those people who don't have windows in their churches?".
several guesses were thrown out including amish and mennonites but he shook his head.

The first kh that I attended was in PA, and it didn't have windows with the exception of the entrance where the doors were all glass. My mom told me that the lack of windows was to save on maintenance costs, since opposers had a fondness for breaking them.

Could we sue the WTS?
by nbernat inis there any extent of the law which we could sue the society for taking our time, brainwashing us and tearing apart our families?
or would that just be pushing it?.
i ask because the attorney who prosecuted jfk's murderer came out with a book outlining a case against bush for murder which is pretty far-fetched yet convincing.

From what I've read, it seems that the most successful law suits are ones for child molestation. However, a recent article said that the judge ruled in one case that the local congregations could be held liable but not the WTB&TS. Please see the post here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/8/161675/1.ashx
You've got to give these evil bastards credit. They cause a lot of damage in the name of profits and still can't be held legally liable. That's why sites like JWD are so important. Thinking people who are in the organization or potential converts can be warned about the cult status of jws.

Google is an amazing thing! found long lost family member!
by coffee_black inlast night, while awaiting the arrival of my son, daughter in law and granddaughter, i kept myself ammused by googling family members i hadn't seen in years.
i located my (fill in #) cousin... on my dad's side.
we were always distant because of the religion thing.... and i haven't heard from that side of the family in literally decades.

Last year I organized a family reunion on my mother's side. About 100 people showed up, many of which I found on line. I found this site quite helpful: http://www.zabasearch.com/
and this one: http://www.blackbookonline.info/ and this one: http://snowcaptraffic.com/

I haven't posted on JWD for the past 4 or 5 days until tonight, because I've been busy. Had to spend a few days before the 4th getting ready for the BIG party, and it turned out really nice. The weather was cool, and it didn't rain. There were probably at least 100 people there to eat and sit around and talk and even more came for the fireworks. Our city puts on a spectacular display at the park right across the street from our house.
Over the weekend, my husband and a close relative of mine gutted my first floor bathroom and totally re-did it, so it's been an especially hectic the last few days. Because I use my real name, I won't be able to say who the close relative was, but he has left the "truth". I don't want to say anything that could get him df'd in case of trolls who read this site, but suffice it to say, I am very happy. He's been in since he was a young child and is now completely out. I never dreamed it would happen, but it did.
For those of you who have loved ones still trapped in the cult, please take heart. It really can happen. I have a few more who I would love to see come out, so here's hoping! Here's to a happy return to work on Monday! Cheers and goodnight.
